Happy first day of Spring and Happy Nowruz everyone! Nowruz is known worldwide as the Persian New Year. It coincides with the first day of spring. It's not a religious holiday but rather a universal celebration of new beginnings: wishing prosperity and welcoming the future while shedding away the past. Some 300 million people celebrate Nowruz and have for the last 3,000 years!

Today marks the start of Kwanzaa, also spelled Kwanza. It's a seven-day non-religious holiday observed in the US, meant to honor African Americans' ancestral roots. The celebration lasts until January 1. The name comes from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza," which means "first fruits."
