Today, we celebrate and honor the lives and contributions made by members of our First Nations all over the United States.

George Mason University still does not officially recognize this holiday, but Student Government is working alongside our Native and Indigenous community members to pass legislation that calls for its observation.

Please take some time today to educate yourself and others on Indigenous histories, cultures, and advocacy by Native peoples at our university as well as in our country as a whole. From Student Government to you, happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

Photos from Mason Student Government's post 10/11/2020

This October, Mason Student Government wants to commemorate three celebrations taking place. We are happy to uplift and recognize the endless contributions that our Filipino, Latin\Hispanic, and Indigenous communities have brought to our campus and the rest of the Mason community.
Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15th-October 15th
HHM celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans to our nation and society. This month celebrates the traditions of all Americans who trace their roots to Spain and Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
Follow the Hispanic Student Association() for more information and events.
Filipino-American History Month: October 1st-October 31st
The celebration of FAHM in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental U.S. This month is used as a reflection, celebration, and activation for the Filipinx community.
Follow the Filipino Cultural Association() for more information and events.
Indigenous People’s Day: October 12th
Indigenous People’s Day celebrates and honors Native peoples as well as their history and culture. It is celebrated across the United States and is an official city holiday in a growing number of various states, cities, and universities.
Follow the Native American and Indigenous Alliance() for more information and events.

Please take some time to observe these celebrations and participate in community events hosted by different cultural RSOs at Mason. To our students celebrating, thank you for sharing your histories, culture, and spirit with our university.
