“And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:9-11

A lovely candlelight service was held at the Ark this evening with thirty-one in attendance. After worship, a very special guest arrived to give gifts to the children! Thank you, Santa!

Our friends and volunteers have been busy as Santa’s elves this week. Santa has some very good friends we would like to thank, including the congregations at Living Savior Lutheran Church, Living Hope Lutheran Church, Stafford, VA, and Grace Lutheran Church. Thank you to the Moss Family, Julie and Les Albers, The Gladys MacDowell Doll Study Club, Cindy, Tracey, Anna, Betty, Tyna, Karin, Helen, and Tanya. We think there are some pretty good elves at Weis Markets, Wegmans, Walmart Dumfries, MOM's Organic Market - Woodbridge, and Food Lion, too. Incredible donations all around.

As we give thanks for the greatest gift of all, the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are most grateful for the blessing of our wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ, who truly act as His hands and feet.
They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And he said, “Bring them here to me.” Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. Matthew 14:17-20

Each week at the Ark, we witness a similar miracle. In the days leading up to our distribution, we sometimes wonder if there will be enough food. Without fail, there has always been enough, often more than enough, so that many extras can also be given to those who come to the distribution. Sometimes this is the result of a last minute unexpected bounty of food being donated. Most often, our brothers and sisters in Christ at Living Hope Lutheran Church, Stafford, VA, Living Savior Lutheran Church, and Grace Lutheran Church save the day with generous weekly donations. Not only do they provide food, they also provide a steady source of clothing and household items. We are most grateful. Our dear friends at local grocery stores make certain we have fresh produce, meat, and baked goods. Thank you to Helen & Tanya (Weis Markets), Anna (MOM's Organic Market - Woodbridge), Wegmans, Walmart Dumfries, and Food Lion. Special thanks to Tracey (Faith Believers) and Cindy for their wonderful contributions. These incredible individuals, along with our faithful volunteers, make it happen. We see God’s hand in all they do. They truly are His hands and feet.

Please join us for Worship at 4:15. Our Food Distribution follows from 5:00-6:00 P.M. All are welcome to attend!

Thank you to Debbie, Chris and Marva, Betty and Julie! It truly warms the heart when our dear friends think of those in need, providing food, clothing, and some very special items for the little ones.

Thank you to Tracey (Faith Believers), Cindy, and Anna (Compassion Center). Special thanks to Capital Area Food Bank, Helen & Tanya (Weis Markets), MOM's Organic Market - Woodbridge, Wegmans, Food Lion, and Walmart Dumfries.

Each Wednesday we see God’s hand in all these gifts. We see His love in the faces of our friends. The great blessing of true fellowship is evident. We truly are one big family at the Food Ministry, working together, sharing one another’s burdens, and giving thanks without end.

Please join us at 4:15 for Worship. Our Food Distribution follows from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend!
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

Work starts early at the Ark on Wednesdays, with many of our volunteers arriving on foot. Pickups and deliveries continue throughout the day. Non-perishable grocery items have been prepared and bagged in advance, while fresh produce and meat are made ready just prior to our distribution. Food is picked up/delivered by volunteers on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Deliveries from major chains are received on Wednesdays. Clothing and household items arrive throughout the week. Clothing is sorted and ready to go each Wednesday. Our volunteers are essential, they are dedicated and faithful. All, serving with joy, without fail. We see God’s hand at work in all they do. The true meaning of fellowship can be found here. They are family, and each week is a happy reunion! Their smiles and laughter warm the heart.

Thank you to all who continue to support the Food Ministry through time volunteered, items donated, and prayer. We want to tell the story of God's love in our lives in all we do. We gather to tell this story specifically at 8:30 and 11:00 every Sunday, but we also tell God's story throughout our preschool, and in all of our life doings. Thanksgiving Baskets for Artemis / Shelter House - YOUR HELP NEEDED

First -

We are again asked to help those in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. Domestic Violence Shelters at Artemis House/NOVACO has 109 families (it was 70 last year) in need of basic food. Your help is very much needed to meet this need, to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Please pick up a tag (or 10) from the table in the narthex. We are collecting non-perishables - cans of green beans, yams, cranberries, stuffing mix, rice and beans. We especially need $25 Grocery Gift cards for each basket to purchase the perishable item.

Please return the items no later than November 19th.

Second -

We are looking for volunteers on Sunday, November 19th to help sort and package the food bundles for the families. You can volunteer in between morning services, during the 11am services or after 4pm to deliver the food bundles. For those who are interested in delivering, there is a process we need to do in advance to clear you to get the location of the shelters (for the security of the families there).

Any questions or to volunteer, please contact Bob and Cathi Willuweit.

The LCMS is collecting funds to assist Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Kahului, Maui. This church maintained a preaching station in Lahaina that was destroyed and has member families that we directly affected. They are also trying to assist those who have lost everything in the recent fire. Please consider donating to this disaster relief fund. Living Savior will be collecting funds for the next three weeks. Please contribute with a check earmarked for “Maui Relief.” Thank you.

Living Savior Lutheran Church
Back to School Drive

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Matt 25: 40 NIV

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Living Savior:

Living Savior is continuing its efforts to support our neighbors in need. We have started our annual Back to School supplies drive. The date for returning supplies to the church is Sunday, August 13th. We are hoping to provide enough backpacks and supplies for 50 children.

This year we are focusing on supporting the Concordia Lutheran Church congregation in Triangle, VA. We have been delivering your food pantry and clothing donations to Concordia and they need backpacks and school supplies for the students supported by the food pantry. Please donate a backpack or 2. It can be for a boy, girl or teen. Just bring it to the church by August 13th. We will have a special box for Concordia donations.

In addition to backpacks, the children need

markers
glue sticks
scissors (multiple age appropriate styles)
rulers
single subject spiral notebooks
composition notebooks
crayons
colored pencils
pencils
“click” ballpoint pens
Pocket folders
And just in case you missed it above: backpacks!

Please visit the Sign-Up link at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090A48A5A62B0-backpacks and record your choice of donations or sign up at the table in the church Narthex.

Thank you again for your generosity.
