Hillside Creek Stables

We are a small family ran equine farm located in the beautiful countryside of Eden, VT. Our mission is to provide horse related activities to as many children as we can.

At the most reasonable rates in the area. We provide a life time of experience, knowledge, and a fun family like atmosphere. Where children can safely learn the ins and outs to horses. If that means they want to attend a show one day or just learn to ride. We strive to build confidence and self esteem through the amazing relationships and bonds horses have to offer. We have an amazing group of fam

Horses got their teeth floated today. Daz & Fresa had some sharp points that needed some filing and Suzy had to have yet another piece of a tooth pulled that fractured and was pushing into her cheek. Vets words wow this pony has a whole lot going on in here. Everyone is still very out of it but will be feeling so much better when they come too.

Ava worked on letting go of Dazzle's mouth today and trusting him enough to let him just go as relaxed and free as he wanted.

Ava then went out in the field to work more on getting comfortable riding on a longer rein and giving and taking. Daz as been loving his field time lately. So glad he's finally relaxed enough to get out of the ring and not be full speed ahead.

Dazzle was on point today! This was his & Brooklynn's first ever jumping class. 2nd out of 6 riders! Great Job Girly you 2 rocked it!

So proud of these two. Our show for tomorrow got canceled so we scrambled to find another and ended up going to Milton for the Chittenden County 4H Foundation Benefit Horse Show and we had a great time. J & Brooklynn both did jumping for the first time and J got 1st in her beginner crossrails and Brooklynn got 2nd in 2ft Equitation both out of 6 or more riders in both of their classes. We had big classes but they both rode amazingly. It was also the 1st time all 3 of us had tried trail and we rocked it. With myself coming out 1st, J 2nd & Brooklynn 4th in our division trail classes.

This girl has been very scared to ride Dazzle in the field after watching his owner go flying thru the field with him last summer. We finally got her to canter in the field today! So excited for her she finally got over her nerves and went for it.

[09/16/21]   If anyone wants to sponsor one of our awesome horses for next weeks vet procedures. We would greatly appricate any assistance. As you all know we spend a lot of money out of pocket to keep the program running year after year. Horses all need their teeth floated for this year which is roughly $500 to get the 5 of them done. So if anyone can spear even $10 to put towards our amazing crew of horses to make sure they are comfortable and able to be the best they can be we would greatly appreciate it.

[09/10/21]   Hello All,
I want to make sure we are all on the same page with scheduling. Being school is now in full swing. Lessons will rarely be the same time/day each week. And I cannot guarantee consistent weekly lessons. Right now I'm having to pull Jaylynn from school for any doctor appointments or things along those lines as I teach every weekday after school. Plus I'm working at Jay Peak during school hours, some days later. So to say our schedule is intense is a understatement. I will get everyone in as much as possible but remember our show team is still showing until Sept 26th so they will have priority on lessons. We have 6 weeks left of our regular lesson season. Depending on the weather we maybe able to go into extended season through some of Nov. I appricate all your loyal support and am doing my very best to try to accommodate.

Girls & I had an absolute blast in the woods tonight!

I could not be more proud of these 4 girls. Stiff competition, big classes, scary music & rides and they did amazing. Champlain Valley Fair is known to us as a bigger competitive show and it did not disappoint. Beginner classes of 8 or more riders and some very stiff competition when it came to the junior and open classes.
Alyse & Fresa placed 1st w/ $25 cash, 2nd, two 3rds, 4th & 5th
Ava & Daz placed 5th & two 6ths
Jaylynn & Hank placed 1st w/ $25 cash, 2nd, 3rd & 6th
Brooklynn & Daz placed 1st w/ $25 cash, 2nd 4th & three 5ths

[09/02/21]   **SCHEDULE UPDATE**
1. After School Pony Program will not be running unless we get more kids. It can run any day but Tuesday if anyone is interested let me know. However it will not run next week.
2. I have 2 spots for after school lesson availability each day. With 415-430pm being my absolute latest lesson as the barn closes no later then 6pm. These later spots have been scooped right up by the kids that do not get out of school till 3pm or later like our middle schoolers. So the chances of me being able to get you in after 330pm is slim. As i have stated before those on the show team and that have been with me for 2 seasons or longer get first pick on availability.
3. What is listed as "available" on the weekly schedule that I post on this page is all I have available. I cannot make special accommodations or add additional spots in for people. Please remember I have a job and a family myself.

[08/31/21]   This week's schedule 8/30 - 9/5

[08/31/21]   Schedule for next week has been deleted and will be redone.

08/31/2021

4h meetings will begin again for Sept & Oct. Meetings will be 530 to 630. I need a head count. And if your not on the 4h page please like the group page as I don't always remember to share posts on this page as well.

[08/29/21]   This week's schedule has been changed a little. Wanted to share again so everyone saw and to make sure there are no conflicts.

[08/28/21]   If any of my Leadliners would like to participate in a show, Sept 26th in Jericho. I have atleast 1 spot available for the leadline class on Fresa potentially Suzy as well.

[08/27/21]   Any of my older kids interested in a teen night once or twice a month type thing for Sept & Oct? 330pm to 530pm chores & group lesson. Would prefer groups of 3 depending which kids could maybe take 4.
Alyse, Ava, Brooklynn, Barley, Ella?

As a lot of you are already aware Suzy is retiring. We were trying to push it off till the end of the season but Suzy informed us of other plans last week. And as of Friday we decided it was time. She will be 27yrz old in January and has done her job. Being most of her riders are already to big or nearly to big and will be in the spring we have decided to retire her early due to health and behavior issues. She's burnt out and doesn't really seem to be enjoying her job anymore. We have always prided ourselves in doing what's best for our horses and this is what Suzy is telling us is now best for her. All Suzy riders will be transitioning onto Fresa or Hershey moving forward. Suzy may do a ride here and there with a leadliner but she's tired and deserves to just be a pasture pony after her years of teaching kids how to ride 🥰🐴💕

Kaleigh moved up to Hershey today. Hershey can be tuff at times. Especially when she starts to get tired. But Miss Kaleigh showed her who was boss and was trotting around like a little pro by the end of our lesson. I see a very cute little pair in the future! This little girl is a giggle girly and we always have so much fun during our lessons. No matter who I put her on she's always giggling.

These 2 kids have been working so hard with their ba****ck riding lately. They actually ask to ride ba****ck, which is pretty unusual. They are going to have legs of steel. This was a game of chicken and I chickened out before either of them.

[07/13/21]   ⭐SPONSORSHIP⭐
As most of you know we have a dedicated show team that competes on the Vermont Horse Show Association circiut every year. These girls work very hard all year long. They range in age from 5yrs old to 14yrs old. Some have competed for numerous years some are just starting out or just moving up through the divisions. VHSA has been a great organization for our kids to learn and grow as competitors. We will be attending the VHSA Benefit Show on Aug 1st. This is a little different as it's ran to raise money for the Association. At this show riders can gain sponsorships that provide them with free classes. We would love to try to do this as a team. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the HCS show team or any specific child attending we would greatly appreciate it. No amount is to small. Can be a business or even just a friend/family that wants to support. Sponsorships must be to me by July 26th. Checks payable to VHSA 🐎💙🐴

Our Story

Hillside Creek Stables is owned by mother and daughter team Jeannie and Jamie Ketcham. We are a equine facility offering lessons, camps, 4H club, training, and showing opportunities. Jeannie and Jamie have a life time of equine experience seeing they are 2nd and 3rd generation Ketcham's to be in the VT horse industry. We pride ourselves in offering high end instruction and opportunities to our equine passionate youth at the most affordable rates in the county. We strongly believe no child's passion should be dampened by a families inability to afford this traditionally very expensive sport. HCS is what we like to call a Community Farm. We are a nonrecognized nonprofit. Meaning all lessons and camp fees you pay go directly back into the barn to cover the animals feed and overall care.

Jeannie and Jamie specialize in hunt seat riding with an emphasis on hunter jumpers. We welcome all disciplines and ages to Hillside Creek. However we do strongly focus on local youth and are one of the only farms in Northern VT that offers lessons to under 5yr olds.
