Which Friend is your child most like?
The start of a new school year is always exciting, but little ones sometimes feel nervous about making the transition whether that be the prospect of a new classroom, new teachers or new friends. Try these tips to help build your child's confidence for the first day of school and beyond:
👋 Wave Goodbye to Summer: Enjoy an end-of-summer picnic and a first day back at school breakfast with your family.
🙂 Keep it Positive: Your attitude makes a huge difference when it comes to building excitement about the school year. Talk to your child about all the fun they'll have and how they'll get to see their school friends soon.
🍎 Practice Healthy Habits: Schedules tend to get off track in the summer, so it's important to reestablish your child's normal sleeping and eating schedules. The transition will be easier for both of you when your little one is well-rested and feeling good.
🗓️ Make a Paper Chain: Starting in the final days of summer, create a paper chain with every "link" representing one day. Have your child draw what happened that day on each link. When the first month of school is over, you'll have a fun memory craft to decorate with.
📚 Read Together: Reading books about heading back to school is a fun way to get your child excited while helping strengthen their early literacy skills.
Share these tips with a friend who is looking for "back-to-school" advice for their 0-5-year-old!

How about a “30 second dance party”?This is a fun way for many of our families (and staff 😀) to start and end their school day…just push the button and dance! 🕺
Being part of the Primrose family at Hope Valley Farms has brought us great joy and support in our daughter's development. We come from Chile, in the southernmost part of South America, and due to various circumstances, the first 3 years of Amalia's life were filled with travels, moves, and living in 3 different cities, which made her very shy and attached to us. When we arrived in Durham, we looked for a preschool that would not only give her space to learn, develop, and grow, but also allow her to develop her independence and social skills centered on respect for others and her environment. In Primrose, we found more than that; we felt like part of a family from day one. Amalia was not only welcomed by her teachers, who provided her with all the emotional support necessary for her integration, but they also allowed her to adapt to the language and cultural change, and it has been wonderful to see how she has grown and replicated the school's values at home. We notice how happy she is at the end of the day and how she looks forward to a new day, eager to learn and discover new things and be with her beloved "kids", as she calls them. We have felt the affection and love from every staff member, and we thank them for allowing us to be part of the community. Something that has stuck with us is that each child is like a flower waiting to bloom, and we feel that Amalia has blossomed beautifully, now being very sociable, affectionate, and showing a great personality.
