[02/15/18]   BLACK RIVER ELECTRIC YOUTH TOUR ESSAY CONTEST
Black River Electric sponsors an essay contest for juniors. To enter, students must write a 500-1,000 word essay on a topic chosen by the cooperative. The deadline for submission is Friday, March 9. Three 1st place winners will be awarded trips to Washington D.C. Three 2nd place winners will attend the Cooperative Youth Conference in Jefferson City and three 3rd place winners will earn $100 each. Alec Bogenpohl netted a game-high 21 points as the Red Devils downed the Bobcats on the road to simultaneously clinch the regular-season championships of the Mississippi Valley and Scott-Mississippi conferences.

Gabe Henson chipped in 16 points for Chaffee (17-6, 6-0 Mississippi Valley Conference, 7-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference), which was up by 14 points heading into the final quarter. Landon Tenkhoff added 15 points for the Red Devils.

It was the first time the Red Devils were crowned champions of the MVC and their first Scott-Mississippi Conference title since 1962.

Jon Bond finished with 13 points to pace Delta (11-10, 4-2, 3-4) in the loss.

The following A+ students will be helping the elementary tomorrow with the Valentine parties: 1st grade Emily Landewee and Lauren Crutsinger, 2nd grade Jon Bond, 3rd grade Ashgen Dozier and Jasmine Ross, 5th & 6th grade Zachary Deck, Dezi Tanner, and Cameron Pagel. They should sign out at the high school at 1:50PM. They should sign in at the elementary and will be there until around 2:45PM.

Any FFA member wanting to order FFA merchandise (jackets, shirts, etc.), Ms. Swindell will be placing an order Mar. 2. Please let her know if you would like to place an order.

FFA members need to sign up to work at least one shift at the FFA Community Breakfast on Sat., Mar. 3. Shifts begin at 6:30 AM and end at 10:30 AM.

Any 8th-12th grade student that is or will be a FFA member and wanting to show a steer at the SEMO District Fair will need to weigh-in their steer(s) at the Fruitland Livestock Auction Barn on Sat., Mar. 10 from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM. You MUST weigh-in your steer in order to show at SEMO Fair. Any questions, please see Ms. Swindell.

Due to a scheduling conflict with the 8th grade science fair, we must move the Delta Talent Show to March 8. Rehearsal will still be March 5. Apply to participate in this evening of fun. Applications are outside Mrs. Vaught's room due Feb. 23.

Thank you FBLA members for participating in districts. Students who place in the top five received medals. Jon Bond took 3rd in Sports Management, Andrea Slinkard placed 3rd in Improptu Speaking, Cassandra Eichhorn took 4th in Healthcare Administration, Colton White placed 4th in Agriculture Business and Morgan Crutsinger placed 3rd in Agriculture Business. Three students qualified for state and they are Morgan Crutsinger, Cassie Eichhorn, and Colton White. Congratulations to everyone!

Congratulations to Emily Landewee, Josh Statler and Grant Coomer for their recognitions in Cross Country. Emily was selected to the All Region Team and was Academic All State as well. Josh was selected to the All Region Team and Grant was Academic All State.

Mrs. Elfrink will be assisting sophomores, juniors, and seniors register for the ACT on Wednesday, February 14 5th-8th hours and Thursday, February 15 1st-4th hours. Those who would like assistance should sign up on the door outside the office. A letter with additional information was sent home yesterday.

The ninth & tenth grade students will be going to tour the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center on Friday, February 9. They will be leaving school around 8:15AM and are expected to return around 11:30AM. Parents are also invited to attend and are encouraged to notify the office of your plans. Permission slips were handed out on Friday and should be returned by Thursday, February 8.

Mrs. Elfrink and the A+ students will be sponsoring a blood drive on Thursday, March 15 from 1:30-6:30PM. We are needing 6 A+ students to help. Those A+ students who are interested should sign up on the sheet outside the office door and list what time you will be available to work.

DELTA, Mo. — Colby Crader finished with 12 points as a strong first half helped lift the Bobcats past the Hawks in the conference road win.

Isaiah Thomas contributed 11 points for Delta (11-9, 3-3 Scott-Mississippi Conference), which led by five points at the end of the third quarter before the final-frame standstill.

Bryce Morgan led all scorers with 14 points for Kelly (7-14, 1-4).

Do you have a talent that you enjoy doing and wish you had the opportunity to show-off a little bit with it? Would you and your friends have fun creating a skit, dance, or comedy routine and performing it to entertain others? If so, the Delta Talent Show on March 6 will be here before you know it, and now is the time to apply to participate. Applications are on the bench outside of Mrs. Vaught's room and are due by February 23 with auditions being the following week. Accept your calling to be in the spotlight and join us for this fun event.
