The Dallas Museum of Art exhibition, “Frida: Beyond the Myth” explores the defining moments of Kahlo’s life as depicted through her self-portraits, still lifes, and works on paper from the beginning of her career in 1926 until her death in 1954. IB DP Spanish and art students visited the exhibition to explore the experiential and cultural influence in Kahlo’s works. Students spent time in the gallery sketching and exploring identity not only in Kahlos’ viewpoint, but through the lens of others close to her. Students ended their journey at a Frida Kahlo inspired cafe. 🎨

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Jeanie Dunlap, a cherished member of the Westwood family, who left us on August 19th after a courageous but brief battle with cancer. Mrs. Dunlap devoted 24 years to teaching in the Lower and Upper Schools, coaching volleyball, cultivating the gardens and libraries, and Westwood traditions alongside her best friend, Westwood’s founder, Pam Butler.

Jeanie touched the lives of hundreds of students and took pride in watching her own three children and first grandchild thrive within Westwood. She deeply believed in the Montessori Method, a child's potential, and in kindness above all. Mrs. Dunlap cherished her role as an educator, treasuring every child’s drawing and notes of appreciation. Her classroom was a sanctuary for plants, people, and pets alike, where her warmth inspired students and nurtured individuality and creativity. Jeanie moved with love and cared for everyone she met; she effortlessly made friends with her bright smile and beautiful soul, leaving a piece of her compassion and wisdom with everyone she encountered.

As we remember and celebrate Mrs. Dunlap's extraordinary life, we recognize the profound impact that educators have, as well as the remarkable legacy she leaves behind. Her passion and commitment to education will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of those Jeanie taught.

Details regarding a Celebration of Life for Mrs. Dunlap will be shared soon. We invite everyone who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her memory and the profound impact she had on our lives.
