Get ready to walk into that Superbowl party feeling fresh w/ a $45 Retwist @JayCityDreads
I hope to see every faculty and staff member that got to pre-order their shirts in front of all of the students, football players, band, brigade and flag runners at the send off wearing the multiple shirts they ordered (450 out of 800 were sold as "pre-order" to faculty members). We still have football players (you know the ones that are actually playing in the game) without shirts. Something's not right here, but kudos to the booster club spirit ladies trying hard to make it right.

And it is kind of sad to see all the tremendous send offs that the other schools that have played in the state championships already are getting (pep rally, etc.) and we get tomorrow morning, with probably the same crowd that has been there all season! I don't think that it would have been too much to have a rally on the football field during the required class periods yesterday, especially given that most of them had already given their finals and nothing was being conducted during class time. I must say as an alumni, a member of the state championship volleyball team back in the 80's (yes, we got a pep rally) and a mother of one of the Senior Football players, I am very disappointed in my school.

I apologize for my rant, I am a little angry, as I just waited another hour and half this morning for shirts for my kids and walked away without any.

But, we will be there wearing our maroon proudly for my son and his teammates. They are an incredible group of boys with incredible coaches. Safe travels to everyone. Go Bobcats!

Cy-Fair educator wins NSHSS higher education grant

April 15, 2015

Cy-Fair High School AP biology teacher Anne Gill received a $2,500 higher education grant from the National Society of High School Scholars to use toward pursuing a master’s degree in biological sciences.

April 15, 2015—Anne Gill, an Advanced Placement biology teacher at Cy-Fair High School, has received a $2,500 higher education grant from the National Society of High School Scholars to use toward pursuing a master’s degree in biological sciences.

The Higher Education Grant was awarded by the National Society of High School Scholars, an international honor society founded by Mr. Claes Nobel, senior member of the family that established the Nobel prizes. Initiated this year, the higher education grants are intended to help exemplary educators improve their classroom practice by acquiring additional knowledge and skills.

Gill, who has been named a Teacher of Distinction from the Society twice in the past four years, said she was thrilled to win the scholarship.

“Because I had been named a Teacher of Distinction, I was allowed to apply for this scholarship to pursue my master’s degree,” Gill said. “I love teaching AP biology, as it is my passion, and want to get a master’s in biology so that my knowledge of the content will increase. I can only help my students more by having my master’s in biology.”

Formed in 2002, the NSHSS recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and encourages members of the organization to apply their unique talents, vision and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world. Currently, there are more than 1,000,000 Society members in 160 countries. NSHSS also provides scholarships, internships and unique learning opportunities for deserving young people as they transition from high school to college and from college to careers.

“Dedicated educators who exhibit a commitment to excellence deserve our highest praise and appreciation,” said NSHSS President James Lewis in a NSHSS release. “We are delighted to support the professional development of outstanding educators.” Learn. Lead. Change the World.
