Did your center have kids at Your Pie today on a field trip? If so, they were so well behaved and the teachers did an excellent job! Thought you might want to know.

Please say daycare is open friday!!!
Are y’all open tomorrow?
Open like normal tomorrow? Or closed like the school system?
Pre-k parents:
I am looking forward to seeing all of your sweet babies tomorrow. Since we didn't get to do our letter of the week this week, for show and tell your child may bring in their favorite stuffed animal.
See you soon! 😍

This week we took our Summer Campers to Fun Galaxy in Jackson. They got to skate, play on bounce houses, listen to some great tunes, have a pizza party for lunch, and win prizes for who played the best “Dead Bug”. Some of our campers showed some serious skills on the skate floor!! Others put their minds to it, focused, and quickly got the hang of it. We are so proud of our campers who conquered their nervousness to skate and so proud of our campers who stepped up and showed the others how it’s done! By the end of the trip, they were all exhausted and fighting sleep on the way back. 🛼🪩🍕😎

On our second field trip we took our Summer Campers to Turner Lake. They got to play on the playgrounds, “hiked” the trails, had a picnic by the lake, and learned safety tips about animals and poisonous plants. 🐟🌱🪴🥾🪵

Our first outside field trip for our Summer Campers was to the Covington Airport. Our campers got to learn all about the ins and outs of an airport, the phonetic alphabet, how to direct incoming flight traffic, and even got to see a private jet! ✈️🛬🛩️

It was such a great experience having the Reptile Guy visit our Summer Campers at the beginning of camp. We got to see a 32 year old snake, multiple other types of snakes, poison dart frogs(learned an interesting fact about how their diet actually affects if they are poisonous to us), HUGE frogs, lizards, and a 14 foot python!! 🐍 🐢🦎

We're continuing our Teacher training here at Discovery Point with DP59! The first session, “Classroom Schedules to Support Behavior Management” included how to write a schedule and the importance of considering routines and transitions within that schedule. The second session, “Understanding Challenging Behavior and How to Respond” focused on the common causes of challenging behaviors and what to do when a child exhibits such behavior. We ended the session with sharing strategies on how to teach students to use their words when they have a conflict.

Thank you to Discovery Point #59 for the opportunity to work with your teachers!

Today is International Children's Book Day!

Discovery Point's Curriculum Manager, Christina, tells us what her favorite children's book is, and why!!!

"Little Bear by Elsa Holmelund Minarik is one of my favorite books. I read it as a child and read it to my daughter when she was little. I love how the stories are simply about a little bear playing in the snow, pretending to go to the moon, and celebrating his birthday with his animal friends. He and his mother talk to each other just like any child would with their own mother, so it is very relatable for children."

Thanks, Christina!!

March 2 - March 6 is read across America week!

National Read Across America week is celebrated beginning on March 2nd, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The annual event is part of Read Across America, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. This event is designed to encourage reading in children and is fostered through the schools. This motivational and awareness day calls all children and youth in every community across the United States to celebrate reading.

It encourages them to read where ever they are. Great ways to observe reading in children include:
- Keep books everywhere you spend time. Put them in the car, in every room of the house, and tuck them in backpacks and purses. Make them easily accessible.

- Visit the library often. Knowing how to use the library and learning the benefits of a library fosters a love of reading as well as genuine respect for the services libraries provide.

- Get caught reading. Children imitate what they see the adults around them do. Whether they see you read a magazine, newspaper, or novel, let them know reading is the cool thing to do.

- Read to your children. No matter their age, reading aloud strengthens their vocabulary and language skills. It also opens up opportunities for discussion.

- Have your children read to you, too. You never know what you might learn!

Happy Reading!!
