NCSS has been in communications today with the National Weather Service and our local emergency management agency. After today’s discussions, out of an abundance of caution due to the unpredictable nature of the upcoming storms, Newton County Schools will implement an Early Release Day tomorrow, Friday, January 12, 2024.

Students will be released tomorrow as follows:

• Elementary and Newton County STEAM Academy students will be dismissed at 11:15 AM;
• High School students will be released at 12:15 PM;
• And middle school students will be dismissed at 1:15 PM.

Lunch will be served at schools before students are dismissed and all students who ride school buses home in the afternoon will be transported to their normal bus stops.

We encourage all parents and families to use caution while traveling tomorrow. If by chance the weather patterns change overnight resulting in needed adjustments to our schedule, we will notify you as soon as possible.

🌟✨ Student Spotlight: Addelyn Consuegra ✨🌟

This week, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of our brightest stars at Newton County STEAM Academy, the incredible Addelyn Consuegra!

Addelyn is not just a hard worker; she's a shining example of dedication and excellence in academics. Consistently exceeding expectations, she sets the bar high for her peers and serves as a true role model.

What truly sets Addelyn apart is her compassionate nature. As an active mentor to younger students, she contributes significantly to the inclusive atmosphere at NCSA.️

Addelyn's intelligence isn't just confined to her academic achievements; it also illuminates classrooms through insightful contributions to class discussions. Did we mention she always has a novel in hand, ready to share the wonders of the literary world?

Beyond the school walls, Addelyn is a community champion. From volunteering at the church's food pantry to being an integral part of the youth group and dazzling audiences with her dance team performances, she embodies what it means to be a community leader.

A message from Lamoney!

STEAM Academy staff and students….

I have really enjoyed my time at your new building and hiding from your teachers & staff to stay out of trouble. Someone left the doors open after school and I was able to break free! I visited so many fun places! I snuck over to Eastside High School, Newton County to meet this “Chelf on the Shelf!” The North Pole is buzzing about. I bought The Notorious Dr. B. a new ride over at BallardStyle Kustoms & Classics -car lot- I hope he likes his lifted Expedition! I hooked him up with some good insurance with Robert Stephens Farmers Insurance Agency! I headed to Covington’s beautiful square and shopped at Woven Boutique. I hope Mrs. Claus loves her new sweater! The square was jingling with activity! I took that new ride through the Live Nativity to learn about the path to Bethlehem at Covington First United Methodist Church. The hot chocolate was amazing! It was almost better than Snowbucks at the North Pole. I even got a chance to check out the beautiful Christmas trees the students decorated at the Lights at Legion! I have so enjoyed my time here that I placed some things in storage for next year with 81 Self-storage! The only thing that had me confused was the “Welcome to Mystic Falls Virginia”. I thought I took a wrong turn over in Conyers Street but then I saw the lights of the cameras.

What a beautiful community y’all have built here in Covington!!! Well, back to NCSA to rest and hide from your teachers & staff one more time! Happy Holidays to each and every one of our families! May this holiday season be full of laughter, love and light! See you in 2024!

LaMoney… out!

Third grade had an awesome day of center rotations across the grade-level! These STEAM experiences kept them smiling!

In addition to the Cookies, Caffeine, and Christmas cheer that PTO gifted to our amazing staff yesterday from Travelin' Tom's Coffee of Locust Grove, PTO has also created a fun scavenger hunt this week for the staff to add to their holiday cheer! This year Santa sent one of his special elves to NCSA, and his name is LAMONEY. Lamoney is hidden each day of the week starting today and the staff member that finds him receives a "MAJOR AWARD!" They must take a silly selfie with Lamoney and take him to Dr. Brunson's office to claim their major award. Today, no one found Lamoney until about 10:30 this morning! Our big winner for today was Miss Enid!!! We can't wait to see where Lamoney ends up tomorrow and who our winner will be!

*Dr. Brunson's first name is Lamoyne. So, after Dr. Brunson received a package from UPS with his name written as "Lamoney", we KNEW this had to be the special elf's name!
