The Telic ladies had a busy weekend!😆

The Newton County Schools Back To School event with NCSS Special Education Department was a huge success!!! There were tons of booths for special needs families to visit, Kona ice, a petting zoo and bouncy castles! It was a circus theme so all vendors had a game at their station. How fun! We gave away adaptive Target brand jeans, masks, Toms shoes, and thanks to an amazing anonymous donor, every child got zipper pouches that both parents and children could use! THANK YOU!!!🥰

Newton County is opening Wolverine Gym at R.L. Cousins School for use as an emergency warming shelter beginning today, Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 5 p.m.

The temporary shelter, located at 8134 Geiger Street Covington, Ga, will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. as cold temperatures persist. The Rainbow Center/Garden of Gethsemane, the host agency for the shelter, is providing transportation from the warming shelter to the Rainbow Shelter from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Newton County Board of Commissioners and the City of Covington are partnering to open the Cousins School Warming Shelter as temperatures are expected to be 20-35 degrees below normal by Friday, Dec. 23, with wind chill values as low as 4 degrees Thursday evening/Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Even though Christmas is less than a week away, Santa and his reindeer are making one more stop in Covington this Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring your camera or phone to take pictures with Santa or the reindeer or both! Since the reindeer have a big job to do this weekend, you may not pet or feed them, but they are still a treat to behold. And Santa is always a joy to be around! Also, stores will be open later than normal on Thursday so you can grab some last minute gifts! ❤💚🎅💚❤

Today we celebrated some friends at Heard-Mixon Elementary for making great progress! 🏆

After enjoying "Cookies with the Grinch" from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Legion Field with Covington-Newton County 9-1-1 for only $15 for a cookie and a digital pic, come check out the 2018 version of "The Grinch" playing on a screen in Square Park. The movie starts at 6 p.m. and is free! Bring a blanket, grab some dinner at a yummy local restaurant and enjoy some festive community time watching the mean green one! 🎄

Funny that someone as charming as an eel can get you in the holiday spirit, but a certain furry green guy is as festive as our beautiful, green Square Christmas tree! And there are two great Grinch activities this week on Thursday, December 8th!

Our awesome Covington-Newton County 9-1-1 is sponsoring “Cookies with the Grinch” at Legion Field (3173 Mill Street NE, 30014) on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. For only $15, you can get a cookie and a digital image pic with the Grinch. Come out and spend time with the mean one as well as meet some of the amazing first responders who are the voice of safety!

And after you get your cookie and picture with the Grinch, head up to the Square to see the 6 p.m. showing of the 2018 version of “The Grinch” on a big screen in Square Park. Bring a blanket, pick up dinner at one of our delicious COV restaurants and enjoy hanging out in downtown Covington with family and friends watching the film that reminds us to toast to “kindness and love, the things we need most.”

It was a holiday jammies and ugly sweater training day with our lead special education teachers! These teachers are the backbone of our amazing special education family! ❤️

So many activities to get us in the holiday spirit this week! Tonight, Thursday, December 1, Santa will be joining us on the Square from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Then on Saturday, December 3, we have two exciting community events! At 9 a.m. on Saturday, the Mistletoe Market in Square Park will be set up and ready for shoppers followed by the beginning of one our favorite annual traditions, the Covington - Ga. Lions Club Christmas Parade at 10 a.m. Bring on the holly jolly in the COV! 🎅🎄🥥🍰💚❤️💚
