Motorcycle News (and a cartoon) -
The national Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving awareness campaign is June 29 through July 5.

Stay safe during this festive summer holiday.
During the 2016 Fourth of July holiday period, 188 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes. Remember: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

In 2016, 46 percent of 18- to 34-year-old drivers killed in drunk-driving crashes over the July 4th holiday period were alcohol-impaired. Before you head out on the roads, make sure you don’t drive after drinking: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

Nighttime is especially dangerous to be out on the roads: Alcohol-related crashes were more than three times higher at night than during the day over the 2016 Fourth of July holiday. Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

Numbers don’t lie: Between 2012-2016, 780 people were killed over the Fourth of July holiday period. Never drive drunk. Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

A DUI citation can cost you $10,000 in legal fees and fines, not to mention the loss of your vehicle and your pride. Don’t ruin July 4th for yourself or anyone else: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

Planning to party this Fourth of July? Play it safe—always designate a sober driver or take public transportation to make sure you get home safely. Remember: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

In celebrating America, let’s also celebrate each other—never let a friend drive drunk. Take away the keys, call a cab, or let them stay at your place. Tell them: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

The 2018 Independence Day is America’s 242nd birthday! Make sure you’re around to celebrate the next one! Spread the word: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.

Help spread the word this Fourth of July holiday: Drunk driving is a selfish, deadly, behavior. Save a life and remember: Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.
Funds Earmarked for Share the Road Initiatives Grant funding totaling $93,458 has been awarded to the Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program (GMSP) by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The approved funding will be used to increase motorcycle safety awareness and outreach by encouraging all motorists and motorcyclists to Share the Road. “The need for motorcycle safety programs is greater than ever, and this support from GOHS enables motorcycle safety programs and impaired riding initiatives to reach riders and non-riders alike” said Commissioner Spencer R. Are you familiar with this intersection?

GMSP promotes motorcycle training, safety and awareness programs. Rider training is popular and potentially life-saving.

The Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program (GMSP) is a part of the Georgia Department of Driver Services. In addition to offering rider education programs, the GMSP also promotes motorist awareness programs, share the road campaigns, and is focused on highway safety issues affecting Georgia motorcyclists. Without proper training, new riders are more likely to be involved in a crash. Experienced riders also can benefit from additional training to hone their crash-avoidance skills.

Spring is right around the corner and a perfect time for group riding. Remember this tip for a safer ride!

When riding in a group, it’s a good idea to ride in a staggered formation, with the first bike on the left side of the lane, second on the right side, third on the left and so on. Always keep at least a 2-second following distance from the motorcycle directly in front of you.
