Grace Lutheran School

"Living the Grace of God." Grace Lutheran School has been a thriving ministry of Grace Lutheran Church since 2003. Our school is unique in its offering of a quality, academic faith based pre-school, within a daycare setting.

We are proud of our teachers! We know that the Grace School Staff, with its broad range of experience, age and education is the greatest resource we offer. Our teachers, aides, and support staff share a common love for children and a calling to minister in early childhood education. Our teachers not only meet Texas State requirements, but attend workshops throughout the year to enrich their knowle 07/02/2020

Coronavirus cases take big jump in Texas day care centers

Grace families, we are working very hard to keep our students and staff safe during this recent rise in Covid-19 cases. We need to remind you all, to please continue to practice social distancing and pay close attention to your family's health.

Grace will continue to keep our Covid Precautions (staff wearing masks, temperature checks of staff and students upon arrival, and screening questions).

Child care centers are not immune to the dangers of this virus. We need your continued support and cooperation to keep everyone at Grace safe. #grace Texas’ day care centers have reported a total of 950 coronavirus cases, marking an increase of 540 cases in less than two weeks. The latest count includes...

Grace Lutheran Church and School

Grace Lutheran, we are suspending in-person worship for tomorrow, Sunday, June 28, and the following Sunday, July 5. We have made this decision based on the Synod's strong recommendations. Online worship will be posted tomorrow here on Facebook and YouTube.

From the Bishop, "In light of Governor Abbott’s statements regarding the spike in COVID-19 cases and his executive order to reverse the gradual opening of businesses, for the safety of the community, I strongly urge you not to move to reopen in-person worship at this time.

Gov. Abbot was very clear in his statement:

Every Texan has a responsibility to themselves and their loved ones to wear a mask, wash their hands, stay six feet apart from others in public, and stay home if they can. (Houston Chronicle 6/26/2020)

Our recommendations to you remain unchanged. Restarting in-person worship is contingent on a two-week decline in cases and fatalities. We have seen just the opposite. Positive test rates are now over 10%.

I know you share a deep love and care for your people. Love of neighbor and community are at the heart of the gospel. Love does no wrong to a neighbor. You are in my prayers daily."

Grace Lutheran will reevaluate after July 5.

Grace Lutheran School offers full time infant care beginning at 6 weeks of age, full or part time daycare for toddlers and preschoolers, Pre-K classes, Transitional Kindergarten and summer care for school aged children.
Our school is open Monday-Friday 6:00am-6:30pm year round.

Infant Room - Ages 6 weeks to crawling
Soft voices and a lot of one on one time happen in this room. Food and formula are supplied. Parents will provide diapers, wipes, creams and medicines. Babies in this room can follow a schedule as requested by the parent. Once the infant begins crawling and pulling up, these skills are focused on for transmission into the Wobbler room.

Wobbler Room – Ages walking to 18 months
The children in this room experience social play, flash cards, art, music and movement. We take one nap midday and baby food and table food are supplied.

Pollywog Room - Ages 18 to 24 months.
The toddlers in this room move from the portable cribs to sleeping on mats during their one midday naptime. Children eat at table in a group, and have circle time, music and movement, and playground time.

Tadpole Room - Ages 24 to 30 months
In this room the teachers introduce potty training. Children in this room are gaining increased attention span and independency. Playtime includes center play, circle time, P.E. and outside time. The ABeka Curriculum is introduced such as basic letters, shapes, colors, and sounds. They also attend Chapel twice a week.

Frog Room - Ages between 2 and 3
In this room potty training in one of the main focuses. Potty training is offered every 45 min and rewarded. The ABeka Curriculum is used focusing on letters, numbers, colors and shapes. This class attends chapel regularly and plays outdoors daily. Students in this class can participate in our extracurricular dance/tumbling program at the discretion of the dance instructor.

Redbirds Room - Younger three year olds (potty trained with the occasional accident)
Using the ABeka Curriculum, they focus on emphasis of language development, social skills, increased attention span, and continuing education of letters, shapes, colors and numbers. This class attends chapel regularly, P.E. and plays outdoors daily. Students in this class are eligible to participate in our extracurricular dance/tumbling program.

Bluebirds Room – Older three year olds
The children in this class are able to demonstrate self-control and the ability to attend to seat work. They use "Handwriting without Tears", focusing on letters, shapes, colors and numbers. Plus they aim at developing small motor skills needed for formal learning in elementary grades. This class attends chapel regularly, P.E. and plays outdoors daily. Students in this class are eligible to participate in our extracurricular dance/tumbling program.

Pre-K Foundations/Readiness/Skills – Four year olds
Using "Handwriting without Tears", these classes build on the foundation laid for formal learning that will continue into the elementary years. Letter sounds, basic reading and math skills will be taught and most importantly, students will demonstrate the ability to conduct themselves in a structured learning setting (lining up, waiting for a turn, raised hands, and following classroom rules and directions). This class attends chapel regularly and plays outdoors daily. Students in this class are eligible to participate in our extracurricular dance/tumbling program. Placement in these classes will be based on the discretion of the Director.

Transitional Kindergarten
Our Transitional Kindergarten program was developed as an answer for children who have completed a Pre-K program, but are not chronologically or developmentally ready to attend a public kindergarten. This classroom has a 15 children maximum and teaches the Abeka Kindergarten at an adjusted pace. Our TK children build on their phonics foundation by adding two vowels (like oa, and ea) and words that contain special sounds (like sh and ar). Their reading vocabulary grows dramatically during this year. Students learn manuscript writing which correlates with their phonics, moving from letters to blends, to words and sentences. Science, Social Studies, Poetry and History fill out the busy day that is planned in this exciting room. Children that are able to take part in this “bonus year” program truly have a head start as they enter the public or private school arena. As the STARR testing’s become mandatory at lower grade levels each year, we believe this program will be a great investment in your child’s future. Placement in this program will be based on assessments made by the teachers, director and parents at the time of enrollment.

Summer & Vacation Camp
Grace Lutheran School offers a summer program for the months of June, July and Mid-August and for Spring and Christmas vacations for ages kindergarten through 3rd grade. These programs provide theme based activities that allow for exploration and creativity with lots of hands-on learning and guest visitors (Science Guy, Santa, astronauts, Leialoha's Hula Dancers). These programs are offered monthly, weekly or daily drop-in basis.
