Woman dies after wrong-way crash on I-670
CRIME & SAFETY HEADLINES

By Theodore Decker
The Columbus Dispatch • Wednesday February 11, 2015 3:00 PM
Comments: 0 0 0 66
The elderly woman who was killed after driving the wrong way on I-670 last night had dementia and was being sought by Gahanna police when the crash occurred.

Virginia White, 80, had been deemed a “high-risk missing person” by police in Gahanna earlier in the evening, but officers had not been able to locate her. The description of White’s 2004 Buick Regal also had been displayed on some of the Ohio Department of Transportation sign boards before the crash occurred.

“Gahanna had been looking for her since I believe about 5 o’clock,” said Sgt. Brooke Wilson, supervisor of the Columbus police Accident-Investigation Unit.

He said detectives have not yet determined where White got on the freeway and how long she had been driving in the wrong direction.

White died at 1:42 a.m. today at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where she was taken following the 8:24 p.m. crash in the westbound lanes of I-670 at I-71.

Police said White was driving east in the westbound lanes when she collided with a Ford Taurus driven west by Hannah Miller, 21. The impact sent Miller’s car spinning into a westbound Kia minivan driven by Christopher Harden, 48.

Miller also was taken to Grant, where she remains in critical condition.

Harden and his two passengers, Anna Harden, 12, and Sidney Tackett, 13, were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.

REGIONAL CHAMPIONS
On Saturday, a pair of St. Francis DeSales Athletic programs continued their success in 2014. The Boys Soccer team defeated previously unbeaten Dover 4-2 to win a Division-II Regional championship. The program, led by Domenic Romanelli '83, won its 14th Regional title, which ranks them second all-time in Ohio history for most State Tournament appearances.

The Girls Volleyball team won a Division-I Regional championship by defeating Dublin Coffman in straight games, 3-0. The win marks the seventh State Tournament berth for DeSales, who captured their third straight Regional title.

The Stallion Football team has qualified for the 2014 OHSAA State Playoffs and will open-up postseason play at Dover on Friday. DeSales (8-2) will face Dover for just the second time in school history, with the last meeting occurring 14 years ago today, as the Stallions rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Tornadoes 30-10 in a Division-II Regional Quarterfinal at Alumni Stadium. DAILY REFLECTION
Follow the example of Saint Bernard and repeat those well-known words of his: "What is your mission in this life? What does God want from you?" Then abandon yourself totally to His Divine Will. Let Him carry out His plan in you. Let Him dispose of you as He wishes without any reserve whatever! Have a sincere devotion to the holy virgin and to your guardian angel. Finally, remind yourself that, as a superior, you need more humility to command than to obey! Be careful not to be too meticulous in all that you have to do. Only have the right intention to act for the love of God and for His honor and glory! Keep strictly to this resolution; never desire to do anything that is not for God or which could be viewed with displeasure by Him. (Letters 40; O. XXVI, p. 344)

DAILY REFLECTION
In the presence of our queen assumed into Heaven, we profoundly vow our heart that she may flood it with the "dew of Hermon," distilled from the holy fullness of grace. How sublime is the perfection of this love in comparison to all of us! Oh, how I have desired that amid the immensity of our miseries she will find and bring the olive branch of holy love. In purity, in gentleness and in prayer, may she carry it as a sign of peace to our dear Jesus! Long live Jesus, long live Mary! (Letters 1230; O. XVII, p. 271)
