Join us for the next sermon series... Working out our "salvation".

The last couple of years have reminded us that we actually control very little around us. While we may not be able to control our surroundings, we can work on ourselves.

We are all a work in progress. God is the potter, we are the clay. (Is 64:8) "Working out our salvation" is working on us. It is us intentionally working with God, and allowing God to work on us. This is a process that theologians have a big fancy word for... sanctification.

What is the end goal of this work? To become more like Jesus. To exhibit "fruit of the Spirit... love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" more fully and in every area of our lives. (Gal 5:22) We are saved by faith alone, but we wont grow unless you are intentional and willing to do the "work". See you Sunday!
Happy Easter everyone!

About the play:
We Are Monsters is a hilarious new musical that follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky monster characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock n’ roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye! Most importantly these monsters and kids discover the importance of friendship and celebrating the attributes that make each of us different and unique.

It appears we are entering the "endemic" stage of the pandemic. As a church whose mission is to "make disciples for the transformation of the world", we can now move forward.

You may remember the above graphic from around 1.5 years ago. The vaccine was just released and it was believed that the vaccine would prevent transmission and serious infection. For us, that was great news! We took off our masks and started moving forward. Then came the delta variant, and shortly after the omicron. However, it appears that now is the time that we can truly start rebuilding, reaching our people and new people, and transforming lives!

I want to talk just a minute about transforming lives. There are some that believe that when we give our lives to Jesus we are instantly and magically transformed. We become perfect and never sin again. However, the Bible shows us (in both words and in the major biblical characters) that transformation is a process. We are all sinners, even those that follow Jesus. (Romans 3:23) I would say transformation it is more of a partnership or relationship. It is a relationship with the Holy Spirit, who works in and through our lives to make us more like Jesus. It is a lifetime process. I have heard some people call it a journey.

We practice our faith by following the teachings of Jesus and applying them (although imperfectly) to all areas of our lives. This includes attending church, loving others, feeding the poor, prayer, attending the sacraments, and more. At the same time the Holy Spirit works in and through our lives to help us become closer to and more like Jesus. I love Isaiah 64:8 which reminds us that we are the clay, God is the potter. God molds us and shapes us.
The church is the place that helps this happen in so many ways. it is the gym/nutrition center for the soul. It is the coach for the team. There are many people both inside and outside the church that are looking for a non-judgmental, loving, "gym for the soul" that they can be a part of. They want to be part of a church that both helps them grow in their faith while giving them the opportunity to practice their faith. A church not from the past, but a church that is also growing and transforming. That is Redeemer!

If we haven't seen you in a while, we would love to see you again. If you are a current member and know someone who wants to learn more about Jesus, invite them to church. At Redeemer we want to be the "gym for the soul" in our community. A place where all people can grow and practice their faith.

Worship update!

We are now going to "masks optional".

Covid has revealed a lot more about us than a virus. Our nation is deeply divided on just about every issue. There are a multiplicity of perspectives as to how churches should handle the pandemic. Some wanted churches to get back to normal months ago. Others think churches should be taking even more precautions.

As your pastor who loves you and cares about you, in consultation with our council, we have tried to follow scientific consensus, as well as government authorities. Romans 13:1-2 says "Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the law of the land are refusing to obey God..."

After consideration with council and authorities, as well as knowing our congregation, we have decided to go "masks optional". Most of our people have been vaccinated, boosted, had Covid, or all three. Therefore as a congregation we have a high level of immunity.

Covid is not going to go away. The task now at hand is learning how to live with it. With that in mind, there will be many who continue to wear masks. That is ok and a must for many people. Others may not want hugging or people up close. Please keep that in mind and be respectful of other's space.

Respecting others distance, and being aware, is an act of love during the end of this pandemic. Mark 12:31 "‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater.”

Love each other... at a distance.

We will continue to have the 9:00 service for anyone desiring more space and would like to avoid singing. It is a great "informal" service. We would love to have you.

Dear Ones in Christ Jesus:

Our deepest fears have come to reality with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The actions of Russia are completely unwarranted, and they endanger not only the people of Ukraine and Russia but Europe and the world. This crisis brings with it the potential of harm in this region not seen since World War II. I say this not because such widespread harm is inevitable but because it is possible. When all is said and done there really are no small wars and insignificant amounts of harm in war. At least not to those who lose their lives, livelihood, land, and freedom. For them it is a tragedy. Further in our flat world war and its effects touch us all eventually. We cannot and should not be untouched by the cruelty of war.

I want to invite you to continue your fervent prayers for peace in Ukraine. You already know that prayer is not a substitute for anything. It has a life, power, and veracity of its own. It does not substitute for participation in advocating for thoughtful and sound public policy in domestic or foreign affairs. But as people yoked to Jesus Christ, we cannot ever neglect the ministry of prayer in all things and at all times. I offer the following prayer for your use this coming Sunday and on Ash Wednesday or whenever you see fit to use it:

Gracious, merciful, and loving God. We ought to look to you in every condition of life. But we most certainly seek your heart, your direction, and your will in this hour of crisis. Once again, we your children find ourselves shaken by our fears, insecurities, and anxieties as we watch war unfolding in Ukraine. Receive our prayers for the people of Ukraine and Russia. We pray for the leaders of state in those countries, Europe, and the world that they will give themselves whole heartedly to negotiation and diplomacy as the best path to peace. We confess that all too often we give in to the impulses of aggression, violence, greed, and hatred rather than pursuing the work of peace making, peace building and peace keeping. Quicken all of our hearts to the truth of the Gospel that we are loved by you with an everlasting love and that there is enough for all people to flourish. Abiding in that love may we find the peace that “surpasses knowledge.” We pray in the name of Jesus, Prince of Peace. Amen.

We are coming quickly to Ash Wednesday. As a sign of global solidarity with the people and churches of Ukraine, the World Methodist Council, Conference of European Churches, the Lutheran World Federation, the World Communion of Reformed Churches, issue an invitation to an online prayer service for Ukraine on Ash Wednesday – March 2 at 11:00 AM EST. This time of prayer will include listening to voices from Ukraine. To join the prayer service register by clicking (or copy and pasting) here:

In all things “Seek peace and pursue it.” I remain in relentless pursuit of peace.
