We are excited to introduce The Drucker Playbook for the Social Sector, a newly created professional development program from The Drucker Institute and Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University Michael Kelly
The Playbook draws on the extensive archives of Peter F. Drucker, the research of CGU faculty, and lifelong lessons from Drucker’s former students and my 25+ years of experience working closely with high-level leaders, including Governors, Mayors and C-Suite executives from the private and social sectors.
Drucker saw firsthand what happens when society stops functioning. He witnessed the rise of the N***s in the aftermath of World War I and the Great Depression. In response, he wrote The End of Economic Man, the first of 39 books that address community, society, and polity.
He was determined never to allow society to break down again and set out to help leaders build and maintain effective and responsible organizations as cornerstones of a “functioning society.” Throughout his career, he advised notable nonprofits such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, American Heart Association, United Farm Workers, Girl Scouts of America, and others.
Drucker said, "Citizenship in and through the social sector is not a panacea for the ills of … society,” but it “restores the civic responsibility that is the mark of community.”
The Playbook is divided into two parts: I. Drucker’s five most important questions; and II. Self-development, relationship development, and organizational development.
The Playbook is available in several formats: On-Line: Self-paced, Video or In-Person Facilitation; In-Person: Team Facilitation at Organization’s Site; Customized: Built around select modules, or into a Daily Drucker 30-day interactive course experience; Annual License: Built to support an organization’s ongoing workforce development needs; and The Drucker Academy: Provides learners with a more in-depth cohort experience on Campus.
Learners will earn a Certificate of Completion for Purposeful Leadership and Management in the Social Sector, gaining knowledge that will empower them with the tools necessary to better direct their time, energy, and resources toward a more successful tomorrow.
We look forward to welcoming you, or reacquainting you, with the work of Peter Drucker and carrying his timeless messages into the future.

I (Michael Kelly) was honored to spend time with Nobuhiro Iijima, the president and representative director of Yamazaki Baking Co., Ltd. at the Drucker House.
And being able to co-host with my colleague Dave Sprott Dean of the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.
Yamazaki is the second-largest baking company in the world. He is the third generation of the Iijima family to lead the company, which was founded by his grandfather, Tojuro Iijima, in 1948.
Mr. Iijima's family's connection to Peter Drucker goes back many years, and his generosity in supporting The Drucker Institute's stewardship of Peter's and Doris' home has been instrumental in celebrating and sharing Peter's life, work, and accomplishments for others to see.
