Attention: High School Junior Girls.....
The Empire Girls State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, is an excellent opportunity for a high school junior girl that is interested in government and how it operates. This program will give the recipient a better perspective of the practical government operations and will emphasize the integral part that individuals have within a democratic government.
Qualified high school junior girls are selected to participate in a week-long educational experience with hands-on workshops on the political process designed to create a government from the county to the state level. This opportunity allows students to learn the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship in a democratic society. The program will run from July 2-8 and all expenses are paid by the Auxiliary except for a $25 nonrefundable processing fee.
If you are interested, you may access all necessary forms on the American Legion Auxiliary website at https://www.alsforveterans.org All forms must be filled out and sent to Brenda Lewis, American Legion Auxiliary President, Post 20, 19 Saint John Street, Plattsburgh, New York 12901 by March 1.

The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh Sunrise is seeking applicants for a youth exchange opportunity abroad for the 2017-2018 school year. The student selected by an interview with the youth exchange committee will experience another culture while attending a high school and living with several host families--a $34,000 experience for little more than the price of airfare and some incidentals!
Interested students should fill out the application in the guidance office and mail it to Doug Kashorek, Youth Exchange Chair, PO Box 2659, Plattsburgh, NY 12901 to be received to later than November 6.
I myself was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Kanazawa, Japan, from 1988-1989, and that experience helped shape my life. I met friends, learned a language, and discovered a culture so different than my own. I will never forget it!
