The Enneagram Approach is proud to be a presenter for the upcoming Fostering LGBTQ+ Allyship Conference. This 1-day conference is a collaboration between Myers Park Baptist, Time Out Youth,and PFLAG Charlotte.
Our goal is to help the community understand what it means to be an LGBTQ+ ally, why faith impacts our allyship, and how to develop skills to foster LGBTQ+ wellness.

So, what is the Enneagram?
The Enneagram is made up of 9 distinct personality types which reveal the spectrum of perspectives that inform our approach to engaging in relationships.
The Enneagram describes the strengths and potentials of each personality type as well as the unconscious patterns of perception and attention inherent to each type.
‘Ennea’ means nine and ‘gram’ means map.
So, how does it work?
Understanding the 9 types opens the door to a deeper and fuller insight into oneself, while at the same time enabling a more empathic and inclusive approach to the diverse perspectives of others.
Here are a few practical ways the Enneagram can help you:

It's been wonderful to see the Enneagram become mainstream over the past several years. I feel it's important to keep in mind its deep spiritual roots, so I thought I'd take a minute share some information about the origins of the symbol which combines spiritual laws and principles.
I learned much about the sacred origins of the Enneagram from Peter O'Hanrahan and Russ Hudson who's drawing I have included below.
The Enneagram symbol, as we know it today, first was presented by George Ivanovich Gurdjieff (1886-1949). In his travels to piece together ancient wisdom, he encountered the symbol and it became central to his teaching. He did not teach it as a system of personality types, but rather as a symbol that represented the universal laws (see below), from which the harmony of the universe and cosmos can be explained.
He first introduced the Symbol in 1916 to his students in Russia and went on to establish the Institute of Harmonious Development of Man in France. In 1924 he unveiled his teachings through sacred dance and music at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He believed the the Enneagram should be understood as a dynamic, constantly changing system of process rather than a motionless symbol. He spent many years of his life developing inner work schools, open only to serious students committed to take the journey to explore the inner work required to wake up and stay present to the tension between Essence and Ego as a pathway to self-realization within the context of ordinary life.
