Bishop England Alumni Association

Good Evening, fellow Bishops. Sadly the Class of 2006 lost one of our members this week. After a brief battle with cancer, Tommy Henry is finally at peace and was laid to rest this afternoon. While there is another GoFundMe that is going towards medical bills, etc., the Class of 2006 would like to raise funds to go towards something special for his amazing wife and newborn son. No amount is too small or too large. Please keep the Henry Family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time. 💚 #teamtommy
Fellow Classmates and Alumni, the next Quarterly Alumni Networking Luncheon will be on 4 April 2019 with registration beginning at 11:30 AM. The luncheon will start at noon at the Harbor Breeze at Patriots Pont. There will be a short but special presentation on the BEHS Options Program. We think you will find it both interesting as well as inspiring. Online registration will open soon. Also, the next Alumni Association Board meeting will be on 21 March 2019 at 6:00 PM. We are always looking for more volunteers. Let me know if you are interested in helping or even attending the next Board meeting. Contact our new President, Laurie Holscher, at [email protected] or me at [email protected]. Please consider donating to the BEHS Green and White Fund. Donations can be made at the Giving link at I hope 2019 is treating everyone well!
Hello, BEHS alumni! I am currently doing a research project and seeking information relevant to the class of 1989. I would love to connect with any of you willing to help! Thank you so much.
This basketball season marks the 55th anniversary of BE's first state champion in any sport and still the only boy's basketball state champion. Our 1963 BE boy's basketball team was 23-1 with the lone loss coming by one point. Congratulations to Paul Runey and his great group of coaches for providing leadership to students who excel not only in athletics but also in the classroom and the community. Coach Runey's late brother, Dr. Michael Runey, was a member of our team. We were also teammates at Sacred Heart in the first season of the Parochial League. Michael was generally regarded as the nicest guy who ever hit you in the mouth with an elbow. GO BISHOPS!

'He was Mr. Bishop England.' Players, coaches recall the late Jack Cantey.

We hope you enjoy this touching article from The Post and Courier on the late Coach Cantey. "Everybody respected him and everywhere we went he had friends," said former Bishop England coach Jim Daniel. Cantey won 186 games and numerous region titles at Bishop England from 1964

Parents and alumni are welcome to join us Wednesday morning at 10:40 AM for our school Ash Wednesday Mass.

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the recent loss of the legendary Coach Jack Cantey ‘53, who loved and served Bishop England students for more than 30 years. Per Coach Cantey’s wishes, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Jack Cantey Bishop England Scholarship.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

When Reverend (“Doc”) Joseph L. O’Brien and Reverend James J. May opened Bishop England High School in 1915, they asked for the support and assistance of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy. Three OLM sisters were on the original faculty at the founding of the school. We were blessed to have three current OLM sisters who have ties to Bishop England visit with us yesterday to celebrate vocations in conjunction with Catholic Schools’ Week: Sister Mary Joseph (BEHS Class of 1960); Sister Stella Maris, who attended BEHS from 1947-49 and taught from 1970 – 74 in the science department; and Sister Anne Francis, who served as Social Studies Department Chair and teacher in 1988- 89 after a long and vibrant career as History Professor at the College of Charleston. Pictured with the sisters is Father Zbigniew Zielinksi who serves as the current chaplain of Bishop England.

We kicked-off Catholic Schools Week on Sunday with the Junior Ring Mass at Christ Our King Church. Ms.Leonard's homeroom 155 is excited to to wear their class of 2021 rings and celebrate a Bishop England tradition. #CSW20 #BEcatholicschoolsweek

Congratulations to Lauren Knapp '98 on completing a successful fellowship with the Joint Counterterrorism Assessment Team in Washington!

👏👏👏 The Charleston County Council last night honored three of our awesome employees for their achievements on a national stage.

Lauren Knapp (left to right) recently completed a successful fellowship with the Joint Counterterrorism Assessment Team in Washington, where she advised the team on first-responder information and provided education and outreach for federal and non-federal partners. In this role, she traveled the country, helping to build a bridge between federal and local law enforcement intelligence communities. While working on the Threat Assessment Team at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center before her fellowship, Knapp identified through correspondence fans and potential copycats of Emanuel AME Church shooter Dylann Roof and discovered the continuation of Roof’s manifesto.

Easter LaRoche, a CCSO employee for four decades, has served as victim services coordinator for more than 20 years and led her team to receive the 2016 Crime Victim Services Award from the National Sheriffs' Association. She received two significant internal awards for 2018: Civilian Supervisor of the Year and the Carroll B. Gordon Award. Capping off her recent achievements, LaRoche recently received the Crime Victim Services Award at the 20th annual Southern States Victim Assistance Conference.

Master Deputy Paul McManigal has spent the past 31 years with CCSO and sits on the U.S. Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force. In the past two years, McManigal has been recognized as the most prolific South Carolina computer forensic examiner on the task force. In 2017, he was also among the Top 30 performers nationwide. Last year, he was in the Top 15!

Congratulations to these high-achieving employees. You make your county proud!
