The Charleston School of Law's Federal Bar Association is committed to students interested in federal practice.
The Federal Bar Association (FBA) represents the Federal legal profession. The FBA consists of more than 16,000 federal lawyers, including 1,200 federal judges, who work together to promote the sound administration of justice and integrity, quality and independence of the judiciary. The FBA also provides opportunities for scholarship and for judges and lawyers to professionally and socially interact. The Law Student Division is an integral part of the national FBA, as it represents the future of the Association – law students. Nationally, the Division functions as one of the Association’s valued Divisions. Locally, law students may organize a FBA Law Student Division at their own law school. FBA Law Student Divisions offer significant value to law students. For example, FBA Law Student Divisions offer students extraordinary networking opportunities. Additionally, local law student divisions are encouraged to work directly with FBA Chapters to promote local connections. Moreover, members of law student divisions have access to the exceptional national programming available through the FBA. Furthermore, membership in the FBA Law Student Division provides students access to potential future employers. For instance, student members have access to the Association's 32 Sections and Divisions, representing areas of the law as diverse as Bankruptcy to Immigration, Environmental and Natural Resources to Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Mission: The mission of the Federal Bar Association - Student Division is to promote interaction and learning between law students and federal judges and lawyers. This student group will work with the state and national chapters of the Federal Bar Association to strengthen student interest and knowledge of the federal legal system. The group will also seek to afford law students opportunities to observe federal court proceedings and interact with federal practitioners, as well as to provide students with information on careers in various areas of federal law.
