Anyone who says or even implies that this regimented corner of the world is small needs to have their head examined. The cadets wear big hats to big parades while carrying big rifles past a big flagpole where they shoot big howitzers that make big noises and blow big clouds of smoke out of big barrels while the big band beats big drums and blows big horns to make a big impression on the big loads of big people who ride in on big tour buses. Their big stadium plays to big crowds who have big fun on big weekends while their big bulldog mascot runs up and down the sideline leaving big presents for the big football players who step in them with their big cleated feet so that they can yell big profanities. Then there are the owners of big mouths who tell big whoppers after big parties where they bring their big girlfriends who have big breasts and drink big mugs of beer that give them big hangovers the next morning. And we haven't even mentioned the big egos with big ranks who love to boss big groups of big guys around so that they can write big letters to their big families where they boast big about how big a splash they are making at the biggest most butt-kicking military college that this big country ever produced. The place is big. (excerpt from Through Their Eyes, ©2014)

The Citadel

Parents and incoming cadet-recruits of the Class of 2024 are invited to attend a virtual town hall with Gen. Glenn Walters and other campus leaders about our plans to return to campus this Fall.

Tonight at 7pm! Citadel Class of 2024 Fall Return Town Hall.

Parents and incoming cadet-recruits of the Class of 2024––don't forget to join us tonight at 7 p.m. EST for a live town hall with Gen. Walters, Dr. Selden and Capt. Paluso to get all of the information you need to know before Matriculation Day. You can tune in on Facebook here:

What advice do you have for the incoming class?
Leave comments below!

"The absolute best advice I must give knobs/ freshmen is to take advantage of every single opportunity given to you. Want to be a doctor in the Army? Go take the internship to help you need to reach that goal. Want to go to Airborne/ Air Assault school? Go ask your cadre to help guide you through the process of becoming physically prepared to take on the task. You are only in college for a short period of time, live in every moment and take hold of each opportunity that is given to you. What you do not want to do is look back thirty years from this day and think “I wish I would have taken advantage of that opportunity.” Study hard, get some sleep, you cannot learn a semesters worth of a class in a night, and most importantly do not let your eyes close thinking you could have done more. Good luck." -2LT Bell
