Engaging Creative Minds

We are having a blast making rockets with We Are Boeing SC and ECM Partner Corpus Callosum at the Charleston RiverDogs game!

We saw a fantasy version of augmented photography (kids appearing to touch a unicorn, things like that) during our visit to Tumbleston Photography, but this is a whole other beast. So powerful!

Today at Metanoia Freedom School we had the Great Debate - Best Candy in the World! Looks like Snickers really satisfies. Haha! That was the argument that won the group. You get protein from eating a Snickers. It can fill you up. Sour Patch Kids are just sweet.

What about you? Favorite candy? WHY?

Metanoia Freedom School Rocks!
Doing unit cost, wholesale/retail work is always so difficult. But y’all know about spoonfuls of sugar and all that. 😉

This is such a great story. This time last year, we were planning our summer program for Metanoia’s Freedom School with Creech's Florist, Inc. Little did we know that 9 months later, some of the same kids would be making centerpieces using the skills they learned working with Raleigh and his folks.

Our Youth Leaders of our Entrepreneur Center were recently commissioned to create the table centerpieces for Mrs. Anita Zucker's honor ceremony at the Synagogue Emanu-El called "A Star Is Born."

Our student's centerpieces were so creative and thoughtful that they were donated to Chicora Elementary School. Parents then had the ability to win them through community engagement at the community Health Fair, placing the intended equity back into our community!

We engage in a holistic range of opportunities that are all intended to maximize our resources and generate measurable outcomes. This centerpiece story comes full circle and is a great measure and precious parable of what our community looks like!

Hey! We had a silent auction for some student photo prints at an event tonight. I thought I’d post them in here as well. They’re amazing! If you’re local, I’ll deliver. If not, will ship. All prints are 8”X”10.

Starting bid for each is $25. Post Butterfly

With you bid. Open until next Wednesday at midnight.

[04/18/18]   If you’re in the mood for a delicious meal and the chance to support student businesses, then tonight’s your night!

Come to John Wesley United Methodist Church this evening, starting at 5:00, for a gourmet spaghetti dinner. $8 individuals, $20 per family.

Photography students from Metanoia will be available to take your individual and group portraits. We will have framed student photograph prints for sale, and students will be offering their services in product photography, food photography, and drone photography.

Student entrepreneurs learn life skills, business acumen

What an amazing article, Metanoia! Great work! We are so privileged to be a partner in raising up these amazing kids. Inside a commercial space at 2021 Reynolds Ave. in the Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood of North Charleston, students transform into entrepreneurs every day after school. They run two businesses: Hodari Screen Printing, which prints logos and designs onto T-shirts and other products, and Isoke Fine...

Yes! And if you haven’t been to the Dellz on the Macon, you need to go today!

We’ve been talking about #whatcommunitylookslike. This picture illustrates it. Taken by Metanoia Youth Leadership Academy students with the help of Corpus Callosum, at Dellz on the Macon in the heart of the #chicoracherokeeneighborhood.

We are in love with our community and inspired by the assets that live within it! Visit soon and look with eyes that see the glass half full so you don’t miss what makes it special! ...and get some Picky Nikki Nachos with a friend! Yum!

These guys want you to come out to John Wesley United Methodist Church tomorrow night for a bbq chicken dinner. Proceeds benefit Corpus Callosum. We will also have our high school students from Metanoia there with their products for sale.

Come get some good grub and support student-run business!

It takes a village to raise them up. Character. Excellence. Presence.

Our "Young Gentlemen's Club" is hard at work landscaping our affordable homes in Chicora-Cherokee! We are so impressed by our Youth Leaders every day. #whatcommunitylookslike #affordablehousing #communitylove #leadingtheway

We are so proud of Bernard. He will graduate this year and will no doubt use the skills he’s learned at Metanoia to become a successful adult.

We are very excited to introduce you to Bernard Porcher! Bernard is one of our seniors and a key stakeholder at our Youth Entrepreneurial Center. In 2009, students founded two youth businesses: Hodari Brothers Screen Printing and Isoke Sisters Jewelry. Students working at these businesses are getting real-world business experience as well as a modest income, all of this in their own neighborhood. Bernard is photographed here with an Hodari screen print creation! #whatcommunitylookslike

So true!

Most things that people love....cost nothing; most skills can be taught.

Thank you, Metanoia Youth Leadership Academy where high school students focus on learning how to run a business. ECM received a proposal to design and print the Summer STEAM Institute t-shirts, complete with cost breakdown and delivery schedule. What an impressive operation!

We had lots of fun STEMing it up at the CofC STEM Day!

STEM professional Dave Smith from Corpus Callosum helps Orange Grove Elementary Students at the Lady Cougars’ STEM Education Day at TD Arena.

We talk a lot about how it takes a village. Well, we have been so blessed to be around some fantastic people who walk the walk as well. It was scary for us to focus on photography for our middle school program this school year. But this incredible gift from Creative Images, along with our amazing photography experts, shows that we are on the right track. I can’t wait to see our kids working with these cameras and equipment.

The Creative Images team is built on a shared love of creating smiles, so when we heard that the middle school scholars at Metanoia's Youth Leadership Academy were learning a lot about photography as a part of their entrepreneurship curriculum, we were so excited! We decided to contribute sets of photography equipment so they could learn even more about how the professionals set up a shoot and get great shots. We can't wait to see the ideas they come up with and the photos they take! Maybe there's even a future CI photographer there! If you're curious about everything that Metanoia is working on, or about their mission statement in general, take a look at their page.

PopSugar Fitness

We’ve had our students try this challenge this week in our programs. Not only is it a fun way to start class, but we also used the challenge to talk about the importance of perseverance in being successful. It’s not how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up that determines success.

They did exceptionally at the challenge by the way.

How low can you go?

This is so cool! I love the rich connections Metanoia makes between the students we work with and the community. Watch for upcoming Isoke Fine Jewelry sales!

At a recent Trident United Way training our Director of Operations, Stacy Brown gave out bracelets from one of our student run business, Isoke Fine Jewelry. This is #whatcommunitylookslike #partnersintransformation

Students earn money while learning the business cycle, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. The money they save in IDA accounts is matched 3 to 1 by Metanoia upon graduation when used toward college or business ownership.

So proud of our boys, and their mentors at Metanoia!

Metanoia scholars took part in “Project Alpha” this weekend with mentors at Alpha Phi Alpha Mu Pi fraternity of Charleston Southern University where they learned to tie ties, and dug into how to display guiding principles of character, excellence, and presence through communication and comportment. ...and had a ton of fun together!
