Charleston Classical Guitar

Guitar Lessons and Music Instruction in Charleston, SC.

Operating as usual

Extremely proud of my student Donte. Here's him doing a performance of a blues piece. He was a bit nervous but got his groove around the midway point. Unfortunately, he's is moving and has to find another teacher closer to his new home.☹️

I found a sweet puppy on my morning run a couple of days ago. To her to the wonderful people at I know they'll do their best to find her a good home. I'm super grateful for organizations like this. They asked that I not post images of the dog to prevent fraudulent claims.

One of my favorite quotes from this past year came from Rich Roll. He said, “I’m reminded that most of us vastly overestimate what we can accomplish in a year. And wildly underestimate what we can achieve in a decade." For me and you, this should apply to the guitar. This is especially important to remember when it seems like the entire year has been lost. Read the most recent blog post to find out where it is leading me.

A little D major sight reading never hurt anyone. 🙂 Of course, I don't like recording sight reading because I feel obligated to show any errors when posting. Once you've played it once, you are no longer sight reading.

Almost five years ago, the studio opened it's doors in Charleston. This photo is from a month after opening at the first location. I'm so happy that I was able to have such a space to begin here, but I'm also glad to be in a different studio now. 🥂 To many more years to come!

What's your favorite song from a movie? I'll go with the classic Cavatina from The Deer Hunter by Stanley Meyers. Your turn...

One more time around the sun is something to celebrate! Happy birthday to everyone! What are you pushing for this next year on the guitar?

Every session requires getting your fingers warm. There's nothing like easing into it with a basic G major scale!

A to my first ever recital for my students(2007)!

I can't wait to dive into this new recording by Graham Anthony Devine! Volume 1 of British Guitar Music is wonderful. I know this one will not disappoint.

Today I am announcing the April practice challenge for CCG students. The goal is to see who can log the most time practicing this month. You can either keep a written record or use the online version through the student portal for the studio ( If you need help signing up, then drop me an email.

The winner will receive a shinny new set of guitar strings! Have fun and keep get to practicing!

Just a little fun for April Fools Day! But not fooling around here 😀

What keeps you motivated? What keeps you coming back to the guitar? What music or player inspires you to go further? 09/04/2020

Did I Fall Off The Earth With My Guitar?

Did I Fall Off The Earth With My Guitar? - I cannot believe it's been 8 months since I've sent a newsletter!
