How should I greet another person to avoid catching the new coronavirus?

Inside a hospital on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak

πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ The EvergreenHealth hospital in Kirkland, Wash. has seen more than 100 cases of COVID-19 in the weeks since coronavirus began to spread through a nursing home outside Seattle. Their ICU director explains how they are working to save lives and contain the virus.

As Dr. Birx οΏΌsaid today in the White House Press Conference, millennials will be β€œcore group” to stop the spread of #covid19 throughout the US. Please heed the guidelines and practice social distancing.

To slow the coronavirus down, you need to act as if you already have it.

This video explains why social distancing matters so much right now:

Disruptions to daily life, like school closures and event cancellations, are real and significant.

But it's all part of a vital effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, so hospitals don't get overwhelmed with huge numbers of sick people.

So proud of Kionnie!!

From the moment Kionnie Epps stepped foot on campus, CofC felt like home. And that's exactly the welcoming feeling alumni Scott and Janet Cracraft wanted to create when they established the Cracraft Family Endowed Scholarship in 2015.

One of our deputy editors spent a day trying to follow all the guidelines health officials have issued for reducing the risk of catching coronavirus. Then she asked an epidemiologist to grade her.

These are the lessons she learned.

Sarasota Dolphin Research Program

Phthalates are common additives to plastics and personal care products and were detected for the first time in the urine of wild bottlenose #dolphins, in Sarasota Bay. Phthalate exposure is linked with hormonal and reproductive problems in humans, but effects in dolphins are not yet known. Former #CZSSDRP intern & graduate student Leslie Burdett Hart from the College of Charleston Public Health leads this ongoing study. You can check out their article here: In this picture, Dr. Hart tests dolphin urine for phthalate exposure in wild bottlenose dolphins in Sarasota Bay.

When Epidemiology and Biostats collide..❀️

As the world watches the outbreak of the new coronavirus, epidemiologists are watching computer simulations of that outbreak, to try to predict what might happen next.

...and while you are thinking about Epidemiology...

"We have never before seen a respiratory pathogen that is capable of community transmission but which can also be contained with the right measures," said the head of the WHO, adding that containment of COVID-19 must be a priority.
