First year Historic Preservation students are already getting their hands dirty! Students are currently conducting field work with Scanlonville, a historically African American cemetery in Mt Pleasant to help identify unmarked burials and catalog existing grave markers.

Students (with some help from program director Jon Marcoux) have been using ground penetrating radar to collect and interpret data on what’s below the soil. Students have also been working with high accuracy gps to map existing grave markers and catalog their condition.
