Music for East Africa

A non for profit foundation that solicits gently used musical instruments, textbooks, accessories, and sheet music for music students in East Africa

So many musical instruments were purchased for a child to play for 2 years in school, they tired of it, and it sits in a closet, or the attic gathering dust. Here is an opportunity to give that instrument to someone whose life literally depends on it. In an economy that survives on $2 a day, there is no hope for these students to own their own instruments.

Operating as usual

I want to start by thanking the many donors and supporters we have had over the past 7 years. It has been an amazing ride! We have donated over 100 instruments, a library of textbooks and a multitude of musical accessories.
As of January 1, 2019 the dissolution of MUSIC FOR EAST AFRICA will commence. I know others will continue where we have left off, and I am happy knowing that we have assisted many musicians and music programs in East Africa.
The final batch of instruments and accessories will depart for Nairobi in January.
Asante sana

Thank you to all the wonderful folks who came to our fundraising concert Sunday evening! It was such a joy to play with Abby Lockaby and Brad Parker! It’s not often you find other musicians committed to bringing the gift of music to third world countries. It’s a selfless act and I am so pleased to have found these two fine musicians!

An 1860’s Captains Chest, 2 signed Louise August prints and two sets of Madame Alexander Dolls: all 9 characters from the Sound of Music and the Dione Quintuplets. Please pm me if you are interested! I am so excited to announce that I will be assisting with the start up of four new music programs during my visit in October. I am starting new oboe tykes in Nairobi, a recorder ensemble in one of the slums there, a program for inner city children in Dar Es Salaam, and a program in Western Kenya.
All of this takes money. So many of you have donated to my campaign "The art of the oboe in Nairobi" through GoFundMe. I so appreciate it. Continued assistance with these endeavors would be much appreciated!

Thank you to Steve Light and Microsoft for their generous donation!

I read today that "it is easy to be generous when you have unlimited wealth". I couldn't disagree more. Generally those people aren't so generous or they wouldn't HAVE unlimited wealth.
Too many people think to assist someone in a 3rd world country you have to donate a fortune. The reality is, a donation of $50 or $100 can put food on their table for a month! Think twice about buying those shoes you don't need and donate the money to a charity of your choice!

We are in desperate need of your old laptops! Don't discard them, donate them to us!

This trip to Africa will be my last until April. I simply cannot afford to make the trip. I also cannot afford my housing in Nairobi this trip despite hours on [email protected] and other sites. If you are willing to help or know someone in Nairobi with an empty house, near the Conservatoire pm me!!!!
