As we conclude our spotlight post make sure to check out Daniel Kenneth Miles from the Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and how he is actively involved in The College campus.

"There were many things that lined up to get me involved in SSDP, and eventually into activism. When I was a freshman, I was walking down the street and saw a poster featuring Bill Murray holding a pot leaf. I figured that if there was any time to do something involving Bill Murray holding a pot leaf, it was college, and after a short meeting with then-leaders of the club, I signed up to go to a conference in D.C. with them. I was hooked, and have been the co-president of the club since late freshman year. Last summer, as an intern for SSDP’s national office, my first job was to organize a small demonstration which moved from the Washington Monument to the White House. It was a sight to be leading 20 people in Richard Nixon masks yelling to end the drug war."

Catch more from Daniel TONIGHT over an open discussion and FREE PIZZA, at our Slacktivism to Activism: How Can You Make a Difference? event. See YOU in the Education Center, Rm 118 at 7pm.

Have a question for Daniel?? Post it below.

In praise of slacktivism: Your cliche Facebook post can still make a difference

"Slacktivism has been cast as a threat to more traditional forms of activism. But it's not. It's a spur, a reminder of how those around you are feeling, and a kick in the pants to get invovled in other ways."

To get everyone excited about our event tonight Slacktivism to Activism: How Can You Make a Difference? take a read. Tell us below if YOU agree or disagree with author, Jamie Hodari.

washingtonpost.com Don't be shy with your opinion.

Tonight at our Slacktivism to Activism: How Can You Make a Difference? event make sure to check out Noel Anderson from the Citizens Climate Lobby, and her thoughts on activism!

"The way I think about activism isn’t in protests or even in organization, to me it happens with a fundamental and active participation with your values as a person. What do you love? Who do you love? What makes you feel fulfilled? Being an activist can mean living your life in a way that you feel benefits those around you by sharing your passions and values. For me, that means encouraging people to be active in their decisions about their environment, because I believe that we have a duty to care for others and our surroundings. I’ve found that this can be done by simply living. You can be an activist in the simplest of ways, by being yourself and seeking other people who will uplift you and your passions. How beautiful is that?"

Did you know one of CofC's very own faculity is heavily involved in activism?
