An inspired yogi and wellness enthusiast. She began practicing yoga as a therapeutic tool to aid and nurture herself during a life transition and discovered first hand, that yoga provided the grounding and inner solitude needed for the journey towards healing, wholeness and self-awareness.

Certified to teach in 2008, she became dedicated to sharing yoga's wondrous power to heal and transform lives and has made teaching part of her life's work. Ji is currently based in Charleston, SC and teaches vinyasa classes throughout the east coast area. Her hope for students who come to her classes is for them to develop a deeper understanding and compassion for themselves and towards others. S

The chatters in my head have been really loud lately. I catch myself being critical of me being too critical. I question often what if Iโ€™m doing it all wrong. Career, business, relationships, finance, my whole world. I get caught up in it so deep. Even with all the personal growth tools Iโ€™ve collected over the years, I still get steeped in self doubt sometimes. I found a note Iโ€™ve written years ago, โ€œYou are so much more than you give yourself credit forโ€ and today it felt so surface. Did I really mean it when I wrote that? Did I really feel empowered and worthy then? And I stared into a void for a little while.. I just sat not sure for how long. Then at some point, my Light side voice shadowed all the other dark ones. โ€œWho are you kidding? You already know the answer.โ€
My meditation looks different sometimes.

Weโ€™ve all heard (assuming youโ€™ve taken yoga classes ๐Ÿ˜‚) yoga teachers say โ€œhug your elbows inโ€ in chaturanga. But like, how much are we talking here?!

If you care to know, that cue ONLY applies to those who tend to splay their elbows out wider than shoulder width distance in low push-up (or chaturanga) position.

The intention of the cue is to keep the arms in neutral (or no rotation) so the ideal distance is shoulder width for most people.

Meaning, if you already have upper arm bones (humerous) parallel to one another in chaturanga, disregard that cue and keep doing what you are doing!

Too often I see locked out knees with a rounded back in an attempt to stretch hamstrings. That can do more harm than what itโ€™s worth.

Instead try ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ bend the knees enough it doesnโ€™t feel too tight to hinge at the hips
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ fold from the hips by hinging
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ elongate the torso so that thereโ€™s no intense pulling in the back
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ do all of the above simultaneously and work towards extending the knees only to a point thereโ€™s enough sensations in the hamstrings but not too much.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ very important, take deep breaths.

Itโ€™s worth sharing once again.

Remember that the acid in your stomach is strong enough to dissolve razor blades, including the kinds that come in the form of the words you swallow.

Remember that your left lung is smaller than your right lung, simply to make room for the heart you hold within your chest. At your most primal level your heart was favored, it took precedence. It will never be incapable of growing, it will never cease to hold the whole damn world within it, so do not try to stop it.

Remember that you use 200 million cells to take one step forward. Do not vilify yourself for the journey you have walked thus far, for it has taken effort and every single aspect of your body has conspired to help you get to where you are.

Remember that you shed your tired skin every twenty-seven days. You were not made to hold your past within you, you were not made to carry it all on your back. You physically let go of every bad thing that has ever touched you, of every pair of foreign hands that unbuttoned your shirt but never your demons; you let go of every regret, of every insecurity. You are always gifted a clean slate.

Remember that your tongue is the strongest muscle in your body. You were made to speak โ€” so speak loudly, and honestly about how you feel. Speak about what hurts you, about what has broken you. Speak about your story, share it with the world.

Remember that the carbon in your body is the same carbon that courses through this Earth, that makes up mountains. Let this remind you that you can stand alone, you can stand tall, for just like Everest, just like Fuji, you are a force to be reckoned with.

Remember that the bones within your body are as strong as granite. You are never broken, you are never weak. When you feel like you couldnโ€™t possibly bear the weight of heartbreak, of growth, remember that your foundations are stronger than concrete. You were made to endure, you were made to withstand.

Repeat after me: you were made to survive. Every single part of you, every single perceived flaw and every single aspect of who you are, was made with the intention of defying the odds.

Iโ€™m so blessed to have countless wonderful women in my life who build me up, who listen, who inspire, who advise, who support, and one in particular who gave birth to me. So much love to you all.

At first I had no idea what this black and white photo challenge was about. I learned about the origins and how it was created to spread awareness of the femicides in Turkey. To Pinar and the hundreds of women murdered in Turkeyโ€™s femicide tragedies, Rest In Peace. I pray for you and stand for you.

I had to stop for a moment. Take a break. Deep breaths.

Information overload.
Mixed messages.
Analysis paralysis.
Decision fatigue.

Everyone is trying to figure out who to pay attention to, the reliable sources, red pill or blue pill... One thing is clear, NO ONE has all the right answers and knows THE TRUTH. We as individuals have to discern and decide. ๐‚๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ค๐ž๐ฒ! We have our own truth which might not be everyone elseโ€™s truth and itโ€™s ok. Our visions might not align and thatโ€™s ok too. Shaming or guilt tripping others wonโ€™t make us more valid.

My mantra on repeat today -
Trust yourself and love everyone.
Om Shanti Om.

The person with the most certainty and confidence will almost always influence the uncertain person.

In my work of teaching yoga and life coaching, my aim and sincere intention is to guide eliminate the limiting beliefs that hold someone back from making a decision, โ€œIโ€™m not ____ enoughโ€ โ€œI canโ€™tโ€ โ€œit wonโ€™t work for meโ€ and such, and also to instill inner power and potential that each of us hold.

Confidence is an emotional state. Certainty is an emotional state. Meaning, they are not fixed. They come and go. Sometimes we need to be reminded how awesome we are to rise to those states. So tell yourself sweetly today, ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐Ÿ*๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ซ๐จ๐œ๐ค and letโ€™s get to work! ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿฝ

Handstand Learning Curve

In the beginning, for many years my handstands look like this โžค fling the legs up and hope for the best.
Sound familiar?

Every once in a while in yoga class I would kick up into the wall a few times and pray that I make it then move on.. Each time it would remind me that I wanted to get better but with no real plans, tools or coaches/teachers to get me there. And surely it stayed that way for a long while with no visible improvement.
.
It wasnโ€™t until that I got focused and serious. I attended many weekend workshops, all day immersions, sought out skilled gymnastic coaches, hand-balancing experts, hung out with friends who had mad handstand skills hoping that it would rub off on me (and it did ๐Ÿ˜œ). Shortly after, I started to see and experience many breakthroughs and ah-ha moments, and it brought more clarity on what my next steps or goals were.

If you are serious about improving and being proficient at free standing handstand, no matter where you are in your journey these 2 things will help you see the results and breakthroughs quicker.

I used to claim that Iโ€™m not a morning person. I told that narrative to myself and to countless people for many many years. I believed it and it was no big deal I thought. And just as I claimed it, I struggled almost every morning getting out of bed. I would snooze over and over. And when I was finally out of bed, I was sluggish and grumpy starting the day off off beat almost every morning. And I wasnโ€™t even aware. Only after I started to dive into yoga and personal development, working with coaches and mentors, I became more aware of my thinking and behavioral patterns. I realized that seemingly harmless thoughts or beliefs (no matter how small or insignificant) about myself were affecting me in very insidious yet colossal ways. I decided that I deserve a better start to each day and something had to change. So I started to tell a different story to myself. โ€œMornings are magicalโ€
.
Contrary to popular belief, our personalities or traits are not fixed, they are fluid. Itโ€™s not our personalities that shape our behaviors, patterns or our lives, itโ€™s our behaviors shape our personalities. When I first learned this concept, it blew my mind. It was so easy to justify and say, Iโ€™ve always been this way or Iโ€™m so set in that way. So many people settle for less than ideal habits, behaviors and actions, even when they cause setbacks, pain, and struggles. It doesnโ€™t always have to be that way. There are ways to break the patterns and choose to experience things differently. Be curious and explore your ways.
