On the occasion of Vishwa Hindi Diwas, Embassy of India, Washington, DC, with participation from Indian diaspora and friends of India, is organizing a Hindi Poetry Recitation and Hindi Songs singing event for children of age group 7-18 years.

The event will be held on Monday, 15th January 2024 from 3- 5pm at Embassy of India, 2107 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington DC 20008.

Interested participants may register their participation on the link given below by 14 January 2024.

All the participants will be issued a certificate by the Embassy of India.

31 October 2023 is celebrated as Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s Birthday. His contribution to the unity of India is incredible and Every year we celebrate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti as National Unity Day (Ekta Diwas) on this date.

India celebrates Sardar Vallabh Patel Jayanti on 31 October whose full name was Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel. He was born on October 31, 1875, and died December 15, 1950. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti 2023 is a seasoned liberation warrior who went on to become India’s first deputy prime minister after independence. In addition, he served as Jawaharlal Nehru’s prime minister and the first commander-in-chief of the Indian armed forces. He was the Minister of Home Affairs.

National Unity Day 2023

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s birthday which falls on 31 October is also celebrated as National Unity Day. At the Gujarati Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928, he was given the title Sardar, which means chief or leader in Gujarati and most other Indian languages

The Bardoli Satyagraha is seen as a key example of civil disobedience and resistance in the Indian Independence Movement. Sardar Patel was arrested roughly ten times between 1930 and 1945 due to his beliefs and actions. 31 October is celebrated in various govt offices and organizations as Sardar Patel Jayanti and people recall his memorable contribution on this day.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was adamant about the need for India’s numerous neighborhoods to remain united. He had to undertake the difficult task of uniting the princely kingdoms with the Indian Union after independence. His statesmanship and diplomatic abilities were crucial in persuading the princely states to accede to the Indian Union, so safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity. Patel’s work established the groundwork for a peaceful and unified India.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was insistent that India’s many neighborhoods must continue to be together. After independence, he was faced with the challenging task of bringing the princely kingdoms together with the Indian Union. His diplomatic skills and statesmanship played a pivotal role in convincing the princely states to join the Indian Union, thereby preserving the country’s territorial integrity. With his efforts, Patel laid the foundation for an India that is united and at peace.

Sardar Patel Biography

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s full name was Sardar Vallabh Bhai Jhaveribhai Patel. His father Jhaverbhai Patel and Mother Ladba had six children total when Sardar Patel was born in Nadiad, Gujarat. Although Patel stated October 31st as his birthdate on his matriculation certificate, there is no official record of that date.

He was renowned for having a high pain threshold. A short story describes how he once cut open his own excruciating boil, showing no signs of discomfort or concern even as the barber who was meant to perform it passed out. When he eventually passed his first matriculation exam at age 22, the elders thought he was unambitious and would only be suited for menial occupations.

But Sardar Patel had goals and plans of his own. Patel made a significant contribution to the drafting of the Indian Constitution. In addition to being a member of the Constituent Assembly, he chaired the committee in charge of writing the Constitution. His deep awareness of the nation’s sociopolitical context and his unwavering dedication to the values of social justice and democracy made him a priceless asset in the process of nation-building.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Contribution

In remembrance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his contributions to India’s union, Unity Day is observed. In order to maintain the country’s unity and integrity, Patel was instrumental in the integration of the princely states into the Indian Union. This day encourages unity among variety by serving as a reminder of the significance of national integration.

The Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, was a visionary leader who was instrumental in determining the course of our country. Patel, who was born in Gujarat on October 31, 1875, was a devoted liberation fighter in addition to a practicing lawyer. He had a strong commitment to equality, fairness, and harmony.


Sewa DC Garage Sale

Youth for Sewa is hosting a community-wide Garage Sale where individuals bring in materials/items from home that they no longer need; for example, these donations can include clothes, books, tools, backpacks/bags, furniture, electronics, sports supplies, etc. The items can be delivered over the course of one month from August 27th to September 27th to one of the three following addresses: 13516 Heathrow Ln (Centreville), 13429 Marble Rock Dr (Chantilly), or 42838 Glyndebourne Ct (Ashburn). For those seeking volunteer hours, every three items donated will result in 1 volunteer hour. Please text 571-424-0467 or 571-525-6302 before dropping off any materials!

Once all the items are collected, Youth for Sewa will sell these materials back to the community at reduced prices on September 30th (location TBD) and donate the earnings back to Sewa DC to keep supporting our youth programs and community initiatives. Any item big or small will make a difference, so please consider dropping off items you no longer need at one of these locations. Thank you for your continued support!
