Another long one because Of quarantine. Common deadlift error/potential fix.

Funny how many people are so quick to dismiss and put down โ€œlesserโ€ variations of the deadlift such as the trap bar deadlift, high rack pull,sumo deadlift,single leg deadlift, dumbbell deadlift ect. Rarely is using no variations of any of the big 3 the most efficient way to progress. These variations have the ability to refine lift mechanics,improve nervous system coordination, and increase nervous system firing to muscles that have become inhibited due to poor technique in previous training blocks.

Trap bar deadlifts have the potential to fill a huge technical flaw Iโ€™ve seen with some of my clients. This is the intentional pushing through the ground with your feet/legs or a common cue โ€œpushing the floor away from youโ€ as you initiate the pull. A very talked about concept but still a very misunderstood one.
With range of motion cut and the bar no longer touching your shins, this allows the knee to track more forward. This puts the trainee in a more advantageous position for them to contract the quads, allowing him/her to better understand the cue โ€œpush the floor away from youโ€
Other benefits-
1) With decreased range of motion and a more upright torso, its safer for people with excessive mobility issues, specifically (ankle, hip and thoracic spine).
2)Prevents hyper extension of the lower back(at lockout) because of the inability to use the bar as a counter balance. This forces the lifter to finish with the glutes instead of the lower back.
3)Deadlift training volume can be significantly increased because of the decreased spinal load in a trap bar DL. Perfect for offseason blocks(when volume needs to be rebuilt and foundation restored).
4)lastly, In my experience, It allows for a more powerful glute contraction at the setup of the lift.
Trap bar deadlifts might help one person but do little to nothing for another, mainly due to anatomical differences and/or muscle group weaknesses.
The point is each person needs to find the variation or variations that brings up their own specific shortcomings in order to break plateaus and add weight to the bar.

DENSITY TRAINING.
I am very grateful that I still have access to a gym but thatโ€™s no excuse to get sub par workouts in. The majority of my early training days were done with limited equipment in my garage. So I thought Iโ€™d throw a training idea out there that I utilize from time to time.

Density training refers to the amount of actually work that is being done(reps,sets,overall volume) in a given period of time.

Perfect for home workouts because with limited equipment the volume and intensity of the workout can be manipulated by time to give you a challenging workout. Also it is very clear, structured, simple and keeps you motivated by having a specific goal to hit each workout(beating the number of reps from your last workout).

I sometimes use this approach during off season work capacity blocks with less challenging exercises for higher volumes for building a solid foundation of aerobic capacity and muscular hypertrophy before moving to heavier barbell work.
The workout...

1)Squat
2)Push-up
3)Burpee
4)Jumping jack
5)Sit-up

3 minutes to get as many reps as possible with each exercise. One exercise at a time with a minute break between each exercise. Take breaks as needed within each 3 minute time period. Record the amount of reps and try to beat them next workout.
This is more a beginner friendly approach. I picked 5 well known exercises that are relatively easy to perform.
Of course you can switch the amount of exercises, the time period given or the exercise themselves depending on skill level.
