Dyslexia Awareness Month continues. Today we make up for the fact that day #4 was unattainable thanks to FB being down; so today we drop some hard truths with a bit of myth busting about proper reading instruction. Balanced Literacy will never work. Period. This means curricula like Fountas & Pinnell and Units of Study. Yes, you read that correctly. These curricula fail all children. Every. Single. One. The empirical evidence is CLEAR and irrefutable.

Perspectives on Language Summer 2021

Thank you, Karen Maguire, from decoding dyslexia Florida, for posting this. Every District Reading Coordinator, every School Reading Coach and Principal, and every College/University School of Education Dean, Elementary Education, and Special Education Professor in Florida need to read this issue of Perspectives.

"The new issue of IDA’s official publication Perspectives on Language and Literacy (Perspectives) addresses the challenges faced by educators who are interested in significantly improving their students’ reading skills, even at the high school level. As more and more educators and school systems find success using Structured Literacy, an even greater number of educators and school systems are interested in learning how to implement it. This issue of Perspectives provides examples of how educators and school systems have implemented Structured Literacy to help their students improve their reading skills."
