Restoration of Madrona Woods

Madrona Woods is a nearly pristine native woodland of about 0.5 acres in the Northwest section of Vista Gardens. It is dominated by large Pacific madrone, Arbutus menziesii, and big leaf maple trees, Acer macrophyllum. It also contains numerous western hemlocks, Tsuga heterophylla, and several Douglas-fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii.

Greetings!

Albers Vista Gardens is offering a workshop: Creating and Maintaining a Sustainable Garden. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, November 18 from 10 am to noon.
There is room for 20 participants.*

John Albers will be presenting the workshop. Topics to be discussed include yard assessment, soils, plants, multilayered landscapes, lawns, water use, water quality, pollinators, wildlife, energy conservation, and sustainable care.

The cost of the workshop is $20, but is free for active members and volunteers. Please register for the workshop by contacting John Albers directly at [email protected]. Payment will be at the event.

If you registered for the class and cannot make it, please inform us so we can have someone else use your reservation.

Additional workshops for this and other topics will be scheduled during the remainder of fall and winter depending on interest.

*Due to limited space, Clubs or groups of 10 or more may schedule this workshop at a mutually agreeable time and date. Contact John Albers directly via email at [email protected].

We are pleased to announce that the curator and owner of the garden, John Albers, is now a certified sustainable landscape professional through the ecoPRO organization.
Starting in summer of 2016, Dr. Albers will be having workshops on sustainable landscape management. The picture below gives an idea of what this certification means and a preview of what topics will be discussed in the workshops.
