We are pulling together a lot of planning to make the transition as smooth as possible. We will be sending out periodic requests for volunteer support and materials related to the move (unless you write back and tell me not to, which I will honor). Our first ask will help us getting ready: if you could share any…

The International Rescue Committee in Boise

Lucienne works nights at an office janitorial company, parenting her 6 month and 5 year old children during the day. While Lucienne had been working steadily for 3 weeks, she became alarmed when bills came due and she was unable to collect her pay. She approached her IRC Employment Specialist, Sara, to help her work through this unfamiliar American process!

Her employer uses pre-loaded ATM cards to pay employees - the first time many of our clients have seen this method. So, after working all night, Lucienne dropped her baby off at child care, saw her 5 year old safely to kindergarten, and rode the bus to meet Sara at IRC Boise.

Together, Sara and Lucienne traveled to Target, where Lucienne learned how to use a PIN code, calculate withdrawals in $20 increments, overcome the $400 transaction limit by repeating multiple transactions, and... successfully withdrew her hard-earned, 3 weeks of pay!

Kudos to Lucienne and ALL her triumphs here in Boise!

Last Friday, Liban welcomed his wife and four daughters to Boise after 5 years apart. On March 16th, refugee resettlement will be suspended for 4 months, continuing to separate families just like this one.

Executive Order #2 divides parents from children and husbands from wives. It leaves the most vulnerable behind and denies safety and security to the most exhaustively vetted in the world.
