One of the toughest athletes I have ever worked with, KC Clinton, injured his knee a couple of weeks ago and will be out for several months but he is a great example of determination. He is continuing with every bit of training he can do while he knee recovers, to be better than ever when he gets back on the bike. Definitely a great athlete to follow and proud to work with him.

"Starting physical activity prior to the pubertal growth spurt stimulates both bone and skeletal muscle hypertrophy to a greater degree than observed with normal growth in non-physically active children. High strain-eliciting sport like gymnastics, or participation in sports or weight-bearing physical activities like football or handball, are strongly recommended to increase the peak bone mass. Moreover, the increase in lean mass is the most important predictor for bone mineral mass accrual during prepubertal growth throughout the population."

[12/25/14]   Next conditioning study comes in the morning, using MapMyFitness with a heart rate monitor. I'll be out on the slopes for a full day of boarding, figuring out average HR and total calories burned for the whole day. Details will be posted after.

[11/17/14]   Thought I would share an experience with a recent high school graduate that is a client of mine. I have been working with him for over a year and he is a tough kid with a good head. His dad passed away two years ago in a car accident and he has a drive to make him proud and go to college. He is having a hard time making a decision in what he wants to do now, train for college football and hope for a scholarship or join the military and use the GI Bill. He just can't get his head clear. He asked me what I did when I was his age.

I was listening to the radio and I heard a song that gave me a deep moment of thought about what my mom told me when I was his age.
This is what came to my mind.

You know you gotta give it your all. What are you waiting for? Are waiting for the perfect time? Are waiting for a sign?
While you're waiting, its the time you lose. You have to deal with your fear. Everybody's gonna make mistakes, but everybody's got a choice to make. Everybody needs a leap of faith. When are you taking yours?

He looked at me and smiled. He said, "Dad always asked me that. I guess its time to listen. Thanks."

[03/28/14]   Good news... the arm bike training is a go! After a month of the program, endurance has increased over 40% and arm strain from riding has become minimal for the standard moto time frame. Work on a baseline training program is underway for distribution.

[03/02/14]   Working on a study using arm bike training to help weekend moto guys keep their forearms in shape during the week. So far so good. Last race with a month off, my arms held up solid. A full program is in the works.
