Reading over the summer helps kids keep their reading skills strong! 📚 In the fall when they go back to school, they can start the new year with confidence.

Here are five steps that you can start taking today to help your child stop interrupting:
1. Have an empathetic conversation about interrupting.
2. Select a 30-minute block of time when your child can practice waiting patiently instead of interrupting.
3. Set clear expectations for the 30-minute period.
4. Reward your child when they go without interrupting or stop themselves after one reminder.
5. When you see your child making progress during their daily practice period, start encouraging them to apply their strategies for not interrupting at other times of the day.
Look for times when your child waits patiently instead of interrupting, and then praise them for waiting their turn. When your child does interrupt, give them one reminder not to. If they stop, praise this behavior as well.
Over time, they’ll gradually become more successful at catching themselves when they are interrupting, and they’ll stop interrupting as often (even when you’re not around).

Did you know some tree species are actually biologically immortal!?! 🌲 That’s not to say that they won’t eventually die of other causes – but old age isn’t one of them.
The bristlecone pine is just one example. These North American trees are incredibly old. One, known as Methuselah, has been alive for nearly five thousand years in a forest in California. There’s also a 3,600-year-old cypress in Chile, and a sacred fig in Sri Lanka that was planted in the third century B.C!
The Ginkgo biloba tree can also live for thousands of years. It’s been discovered that even when they're 1,000 years old, the immune system of these trees is like that of a 20-year-old.
To stay eternally youthful, trees have a lot of tricks up their sleeve. They’ve evolved a remarkable ability to delay and minimize the effects of ageing by replacing the parts they lose – and they can even build on their own dead tissue. In fact, the trunk of a very old tree might be 95 percent dead – yet on it grows!

Contrary to what cartoons may have taught you, woodpeckers don’t drill into trees for the sole purpose of annoying humans.
Acorn woodpeckers use their beaks to hollow out wood structures so they can store food like acorns, almonds and hazelnuts.

On Friday, April 21st, the Timberline High School Music Department (band, choir, and orchestra) competed in the WorldStrides Music Festival in Anaheim, CA along with 25 other schools from across the U.S. and Canada. Timberline swept the competition, bringing home 27 awards in total. Nearly every single category was a Timberline victory. A hearty congratulations to our students who took part in this amazing victory!
