Who else gets nervous for holiday get-togethers with kids? 🤷♀️
Holiday visits with family and friends can often be filled with...
- Unwanted judgments and opinions
- Messed-up sleep schedules
- Meltdowns and whining
..the list goes on!
If you prepare your hosts and your child for what to expect in advance, you can decrease the chances that behavioral issues will turn into big problems during the visit. Here are a few ways you can minimize stress for your child during the holidays:
Talk with your family ahead of time about your child's needs:
A short conversation with extended family members will prepare them so they can respond with empathy instead of shock or anger when your child acts out at an inappropriate time.
Communicate to your family about any dietary restrictions:
If you use a restricted diet to curb some of your child's negative behavioral issues, you need to tell your extended family what isn't allowed.
Create a safe space for your child:
By finding a private area for time out, you can spare your child some embarrassment while he or she takes five to 10 minutes to calm down.

“After Brain Balance, Hayden is the brilliant, happy, and sweet boy I always knew he could be. Gone are the days we used to fight over the need for him to wear a coat when it’s winter because now he can actually feel when he is cold. He reads social cues and understands facial expressions to know how someone is feeling. He no longer has tantrums or beats up on himself. He is happy and proud of who he is and no longer asks, ‘Mommy, what's wrong with me?’”
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us! ❤️

“My daughter struggled with emotional regulation, violent outbursts, and was overall unhappy most of the time. When looking into the program, we were hesitant because of the financial cost, but ultimately decided it was worth it. We were right! After a few months of working with Brain Balance, she has significantly fewer outbursts, is communicating instead of screaming, is no longer violent, calms down faster, and is so much happier. Everything at the OKC center has been amazing and so welcoming. We are so grateful to have found this program and for the significant positive changes it has made for our girl and family.”
We truly appreciate and admire our Brain Balance parents, thank you for sharing your child's personal journey! ❤️

🧠 Unlock the Power of Mental Schema!
In our recent "Preparing for a Successful School Year" webinar, Lynn Brittnacher, a tenured elementary and middle school educator shared invaluable insights on how Mental Schema shapes the path to classroom success.
📁 Mental Schema: It's like a filing cabinet for your brain, making info easy to retrieve. But not every student has this ability! Some minds resemble an alphabet soup, causing struggles in learning and staying on task. Watch the clip above to learn:
📚 Open-ended projects can feel overwhelming without a structured mental schema. As educators and parents, we must tailor organizational systems to fit each child's unique needs.
💡 Children may know the info but struggle to demonstrate it when needed. These challenges can affect organization, writing, and more. Early recognition is key!
🎯 To support students with underdeveloped mental schema, we need to simplify their learning environment. Minimize distractions and provide clear, manageable steps.

Parents, although it might seem like it, your child’s defiant behavior is not on purpose. When kids are displaying defiant behavior, their brains and bodies are having a reaction to stress, fear, and punishment that is different compared to children who don't display defiant behavior.

🌈🧠 Unmasking the Impact of Food Dyes on Our Little Learners' Minds 📚🎨
We're sharing some insights on how those sneaky food dyes and additives might be affecting your child's brain during the school day. This is a great reminder of the connection between dyes and mood ahead of Halloween!
When our little ones consume foods loaded with artificial colors, it can sometimes lead to unexpected consequences. 🎨✨ These additives have been linked to mood swings, irritability, and even difficulty focusing – not the ideal recipe for a successful school day! 🤯😤
But fear not! This isn't about perfection; it's about making mindful choices that fit your family's needs. 🌟💪
Here are a few tips to consider:
1️⃣ Read Labels: Check the ingredient lists and opt for foods with natural coloring whenever possible. 📜🥦
2️⃣ Homemade Goodies: Get creative in the kitchen and make your own colorful snacks using natural ingredients like beet juice or turmeric. 🍪🍇
3️⃣ Balanced Diet: Ensure your child's meals include a balance of protein, healthy fats, and whole grains. It can help stabilize energy levels and mood. 🍽️🥑
4️⃣ Hydration: Keep them hydrated with water or herbal teas instead of sugary drinks – it's great for brain function! 💧🍵
Remember, we're all in this together, and small changes can make a big difference. Our goal is to support our kids in reaching their full potential, and it starts with nurturing their incredible minds. So, let's keep making those positive choices, and let's celebrate every step forward! 🎉👏
You've got this, and I'm here to cheer you on! 🌟❤️
