Here is our newest blog post. You can see our other blog posts at RTCFA.com/blog

In many states, open carry of fi****ms is legally permitted, but is it really a wise choice? Personally, I believe open carrying presents more risks than benefits. Here’s why I choose to keep my firearm concealed:

1. You Become a Target
When you openly carry a firearm, you inadvertently make yourself a target. A criminal looking to acquire a weapon may see you as an easy mark. All it takes is for you to turn a corner, and they could ambush you from behind, leaving you vulnerable. The assumption that you can draw your weapon quickly is often misguided—it's crucial to consider the element of surprise that an attacker has.

2. Increased Confrontation
Not everyone is comfortable with fi****ms, and those who oppose them may confront you aggressively. This could lead to heated situations or altercations that you’d rather avoid. Openly carrying a firearm invites unwanted attention and scrutiny, which can escalate tensions.

3. Potential Police Encounters
Even if you manage to avoid direct confrontation, there’s a risk that someone might call the police on you. This could lead to an investigation where you find yourself having to explain your actions to law enforcement, even though you’re legally permitted to carry. Such situations can be stressful and confusing.

4. Difficulties in Identifying Good vs. Bad
In a critical incident where law enforcement is called to the scene, they may struggle to distinguish between the "good guy" and the "bad guy." If police receive reports of a person with a gun, you could find yourself facing officers with weapons drawn, putting you in a potentially dangerous position.

5. Unwanted Attention and Hassles
Outside of rural areas or certain western states, open carry is not very common. When people see someone with a visible firearm, they often panic, assuming that a crime is in progress. This misunderstanding can lead to unnecessary police involvement and can disrupt your day.

6. Following the Example of Experts
Consider how off-duty law enforcement officers carry their fi****ms. They typically choose to conceal their weapons rather than display them openly. If those trained to handle fi****ms opt for concealment, it raises the question of why an average citizen should choose otherwise.

Conclusion
Ultimately, open carry poses more risks than rewards. If you are legally allowed to carry a firearm, I recommend obtaining a concealed carry license or utilizing concealed carry laws if your state permits it. This approach can help you avoid a myriad of complications and provide peace of mind in your daily life.
