Enjoyed accompanying for a Christmas Cantata rehearsal in Boise today! ๐ถ
Congratulations to my students for their lovely holiday recital today! ๐นโ๏ธ
Studio families! There has been some confusion. Please note, the recital is THIS Sunday, December 5th. (Not 12th!)
I am a MusicLink instructor. Wonderful students have come through my studio through the years because of MusicLink. It's been a joy to work with these students and see them blossom musically and personally. If you can, donate to this wonderful organization. All donations go toward assisting a student in their pursuit of musical opportunities.
MusicLink instructors are not reimbursed for their instruction time. Rather, donations go toward purchases of books, Festival fees, music camps, and instruments for these students.
How does MusicLink inspire you? Here is what one person said, "The first time I heard about MusicLink, I was instantly drawn to its inspiring vision. I have since been impressed by the sense of community and giving spirit among those involved. They are easy to work with and eager to help in any way possible.
As a college sophomore studying piano performance, I often wonder about what kind of impact I can have on the world with my education. MusicLink has given me a way to use my abilities in a productive and meaningful way."
This Giving Tuesday, please consider supporting the MusicLink Foundation.
Take a look at these street names! So many composers!
Maybe we should take a studio field trip to this Meridian subdivision. ๐
I encourage my students to memorize, especially for competitions, masterclasses, and festivals where it is often required. During the process of memorization, a student realizes so much more about the piece by looking closer and practicing deeper.
But it's also important to learn lots of repertoire as a student. This is why students do not memorize for select events like our recent holiday festival or upcoming Christmas Recital.
Memorization is difficult, but helps students develop stronger memorization skills for school, too.
Why are pianists expected to memorize so much? Pianists utilise four types of memory when learning music. We look at each type, as well as why pianists are pressured to memorize in the first place!
I am honored to be the recipient of the 2021 Albert Nakata Memorial Study Grant, awarded by the Oregon Music Teachers Association.
This grant goes toward my continuing education in private instruction with Dr. Thomas Otten and Bachelor of Music studies at Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle, WA.
Thank you to OMTA, Margaret Littlehales, and Susan Todd!
The piano studio is relocating! Piano students take the month of June off from lessons while the studio relocates to Boise.
Sometimes it is good to pause and celebrate students' achievements outside the studio, too. Congratulations to my students who attend TVCA! Wonderful fine arts evening to be proud of! I enjoyed hearing your music, listening to your poetry recitations, and viewing your artwork!
Just finished a weekend of adjudicating for Syllabus. Concluded the day with my student's Senior Piano Recital. Congratulations, Heidi! ๐น โ
๐ This looks exactly like my Advanced Chromatic Harmony homework this semester!
Many of you know I have been continuing my studies in piano performance with Dr. Peter Mack, NCTM, at Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle, Washington. My culminating recital for this semester is THIS Saturday, May 1st, 7:00pm MST, on Zoom. You are all invited to "attend". Please contact me privately for the Zoom link, as I do not wish to share it publicly. (Students have received the link via email.)

Adjudicating OMTA Syllabus for Hillsboro/Portland this weekend!
My favorite conversation, introducing myself to a student:
"I lived in Portland for 3 years, but now I live on the other side of the state, in Eastern Oregon, in a different time zone even."
Student: ".... So you live in East Portland?"
๐คฃ
But truly, it is an honor to listen to the work of so many wonderful teachers and students from around the state!
Congratulations to my instructor, Dr. Peter Mack, on his election as MTNA President-Elect!
Congratulations to my fellow OMTA colleague (and the adjudicator of my students' Fall 2020 Syllabus exams) on her election as MTNA Vice-President!
