Meet the Artist🎨 The Caterpillar🐛
by Kelsey Parry and Amanda Fitch

This super cool walk through art piece, meant to make you feel tiny, was the idea of JUMP’s own graphic designer, who came up with the idea when designing our Illumibrate graphics incorporating the butterfly 🦋
“The caterpillar is a nice metaphor for change and transformation and this is a great time to reflect on all the changes that we have been through this past year.
Plus who doesn’t love Honey I Shrunk The Kids, and always wanted to know what it would be like to be amongst giant bugs!?”-Kelsey Parry

“The project could not have been possible without the amazing help and magic hands of Amanda Fitch, who is an absolute rock star with incredible talent”

The public interacted with the caterpillar by adding their own flare with spray paint during this last Saturday’s celebration🎨

Come see the 🐛 and all the other art installations until June 5th

Tractor Wednesday 🚜 3/6

One of our most famous tractors “Kerosene Annie”, on display right outside of JUMP is being especially celebrated this August with the commemoration of the first ever Flywheel Festival coming to JUMP August 1st , that marks the countdown to our dear old Kerosene Annie’s departure where we will celebrate everything tractor, everything agriculture, with plenty of food, good music and some good old-fashioned games!

“Kerosene Annie”
1909 La Porte, IN
The Rumely Oil Pull was a line of tractors built from 1910 to 1930, where machine became known as Kerosene Annie due to its ability to burn Oil fuel, a process created that injected water to help control the combustion process. Out of the 935 Oil Pull tractors produced, there are only 23 known to exist today. That’s a 2.46 percent survival rate.
They are odd, with their small looking rear wheels and huge radiator. It was started by the operator stepping out of the cab, climbing onto the flywheel, and using his body weight to get it turning, then the operator would rush back into the cab to adjust the choke and try to keep the engine running.
This tractor is special because of its ability to run on kerosene, making it 5 cents per gallon of fuel, compared to 25 cents that other engines would use.
With it’s production in 1910, “Kerosene Annie” began and proved very successful both home and abroad.

Stay tuned for more information and details about the Flywheel festival August 1st ☀️and our MOMMOTH Sunflower 🌻 competition where we will announce at the festival who the winner of the best and largest sunflowers in the valley is!

Tractor Wednesdays🚜
Another fun facts Wednesday where we can shine the light on the 52 vintage tractors we have on display around JUMP.
“Reeves 40”
Columbus, IN 1911

Reeves & Co. was an American farm tractor company that manufactured some of the largest steam-traction engines used in North America, and was started by the most unusual pair in the tractor-manufacturing world, Reeves brothers Marshal and Milton.
The brothers got started when they were teenagers, plowing corn on their father’s farm with a conventional double shovel plow in 1869, when Marshal was struck with an idea, and he devised a plow that made plowing corn twice as effective. They improved the device with the help their father and in 1874 started Reeves & Co. Marshall, and in 1910, Reeves and Co. built their first tractor.

The dynamic Reeves brothers not only made tractors, but cars and buses too. Marshall during his lifetime was credited with more than 50 patents, and his brother patented more than 100 different items to make farming cultivation more effective.

Car making and tractor making go hand in hand: Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari have all manufactured tractors.

We will be celebrating tractors🚜 during our 1st ever Flywheel Festival on August 7th!

If you are interested join our Tractor Doctor Rob Bearden every Wednesday at 12pm for a tour of the tractors.

Tractor Wednesday🚜
A new series where we will be highlighting a one of a kind tractor each Wednesday leading up to our FlyWheel Agriculture Festival in August where we will celebrate our roots.🌱
There are 52 special tractors in Jack’s Urban Meeting Place’s collection. All because of the man, the legend Jack Simplot.

1/6 “The Case Steam Engine”
19th century, Racine, WI
Jerome Increase Case was the founder of Case, one of the most prominent creator of harvesting equipment out there.

Case had foreseen the need for a new power source for his machines because until this time, the machines were powered by treadmill horsepower. Case envisioned a steam-powered thresher that would work faster and out-perform the old horse-powered method.

He constructed the 1st portable steam engine in 1869, and won first place at 1878 Paris Exposition in France.

To learn more about these one if a kind vintage tractors, Rob Bearden, JUMP’s Tractor Doctor and expert has tours of Jump’s 52 tractors at 12pm every Wednesday.

Turtlemobile🐢 By Jesse Cordtz and Zack Morris / Meet the Artist🎨
This awesome mobile art piece came to fruition from a dream ☁️ At Jump we like to make dreams into reality, and that is exactly what Jesse and Zack did for ILLUMIBRATE this year.
The artists took an old children’s jungle gym they found discarded, and created this awesome piece that can be experienced by taking a ride on it via bike or in the sweet hammock that is inside 🐢

Jesse Cordtz is a fellow JUMP employee and runs the Make studio.

Zack Morris owns Valiant Productions and did av for the Illumibrate party on Saturday.
