It was bittersweet sending our 5th graders off for summer one last time. While some tears were shed we also celebrated with an informal promotion ceremony, music/dancing, games, popsicles, unveiling the apropos mural the 5th graders created, and starting a new tradition with our 5th Grade Walk (where our K-4 students cheered on the 5th graders’ last trip around the building).

It wasn’t a typical last day, but as we did all year … we found unique ways to capitalize on what we CAN do instead of worrying about what we CAN’T.

Go do great things in Middle School and beyond Pumas!

It's been tough to get to Facebook over the district network recently, but for this occasion it was worth the trouble of accessing our page.

As you all know, we have one of the BEST school counselors out there in Mrs. Thon. The impact she has on students, staff, and families is immense. We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented individual doing everything possible to meet the needs of our school community.

Feel free to share your appreciation in the comments!

Our kids have taught us so many lessons about how to take on the adversity we are all facing, including this one last week ...

On her own, Sophia H. created a fundraiser that included a GoFundMe page, a donation box at a local store, a donation from Albertsons, and completing chores specifically to raise money for Pioneer. She wanted us to use the funds to purchase cleaning supplies for school.

Sophia knew she could make a difference for our staff and her peers, formulated a plan, and put it into action. The results were the ability to provide much-desired cleaning wipes to classrooms and our library so we can continue to promote community health and keep our Pumas safe.

Thank you Sophia!

Some truly bittersweet moments with our students the last couple of days. It was beyond wonderful to see our students again but sad knowing we won't see them again this year.

This was even more difficult during our 5th grade event yesterday. The entire staff gathered to celebrate our promoting students and wish them farewell for the final time. While we would give anything to have a little more time with these amazing kids, we KNOW that they are ready for their next challenge in 6th grade and are on to GREAT things!

Today was the kind of day we ALL needed. It filled our souls to see our Pumas (students and families) again!

We appreciate our families who waited in a long slow line for their chance to see our staff one more time this year.

Remember that we will continue to provide learning packets for the weeks of June 1 and 8. So while this seemed like a sendoff we hope there can still be some meaningful learning ahead.

5th Graders ... It's your day tomorrow (4-6pm).

Remote learning packets are NOW available in front of Pioneer. Many parents have already stopped by to pick up these activities hand-selected/created by YOUR children's teachers to support our Pumas' learning at home.

Depending on which path you use to walk to the front of the building, you are greeted by one of these chalk messages left by a yet to be identified spreader of kindness.

Remember ... don't hesitate to reach out to your teacher for support. THANK YOU PARENTS ... YOU'VE GOT THIS! And we are here for you.

Being recognized for your exceptional practice WITHIN such a remarkable staff is one thing. Being recognized for your exceptional practice BY such a remarkable staff is the highest honor.

Our staff voted Kim Micinski (3rd Grade Teacher) and Malinda Morrison (CPU Lab Teacher) as Pioneer's Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year for 2019-20!

They were recognized for their efforts within their classrooms and across the entire school. They are difference makers who have touched the lives of MANY students, families, and colleagues.

Congratulations Mrs. Micinski and Mrs. Morrison!

The 'word from the bird' was that all of the 'hip cats' were at our Fabulous 50's Fun Night on Friday!

Thank you to our PTA and all of the volunteers that made this possible. We are certainly 'made in the shade' when it comes to having parents, family, staff and community members who care enough to make these events happen!

The West Ada Board of Trustees do so much to support our school and district. Today we received a visit from Zone 3 Trustee Steve Smylie (who represents Pioneer as well as other schools in the East Central side of the district).

On behalf of the West Ada Education Foundation, he presented Mrs. Moos' class with a grant that will benefit our ENTIRE first grade through the purchase of much needed instructional technology.

This grant, along with a handful of projects at neighboring schools, was made possible through the generous donation of a West Ada patron. We thank this anonymous champion of education!

Mr. Jakious felt just a touch Grinchy being forced to wear BSU clothes today (due to bad memories of the Broncos beating his Ducks).

That feeling was overcome by the fact that the students earned this by raising over $1300 in the gift card drive benefiting Pioneer Families. Thank you to all the families who donated!

Also ... Mr. Jakious was happy to find that his popularity was at an all-time high while sporting the Blue & Orange. Kids were even asking to take selfies with him!
