Hey guys. I have an almost- 11- year- old Pug named Cooper. His back legs have been slowly giving out over the last couple years. I am thinking of getting him a wheelchair we can use for walks & at dog daycare.

I want to know if anyone out there has any experience with Pugs using wheelchairs. Any brands you recommend, or don't recommend? Should I get a custom made one, or an adjustable one? It looks like there are lots of options on Amazon. He is 22 pounds and still has some use of his back legs.
My mother in law Judy Paananen posted a bit ago:

We have a large dog ramp that my husband made for our aging pug so she could get up on the bed at night. However, she passed away last Oct. now we are getting rid of it. FREE It has a nice covering on the ramp and a side rail as she was afraid of falling as her eyesight was getting bad. Come on by 4307 N Mckinley Park Ave and throw it in your pick-up and it is yours. Thanks, Judy
I emailed back in December about possibly rescuing a senior pug but never heard back . Can someone reach out ?
Would love it if you could spread the word. I made these masks and am donating $10 for the sale of each pug mask to Pug Rescue of Florida. Please visit my Etsy shop if you are interested- https://etsy.me/2AMHXZO

Hi all!
My name is Pat and I'm Reggie and Rory's dad. I'm also an amateur artist. I recently lost my oldest pug Gus. Needless to say, it was a very hard. I painted a portrait of Gus which hangs on my living room wall. It brings me a warm feeling, and makes me feel that he is with us.
I saw that little Yowie has passed. She seemed like a sweet soul. I was inspired to do a little portrait of her for her foster mom. I would like to send it to her if she would like it.

Thanks

Styles spent the morning at West Vet getting his first acid bile test. We won’t know results for a bit, but we are hopeful that the indicate good liver function since his surgery. Fingers crossed!

SPARKY NEEDS OUR HELP!

The vibrant young pug in these photos is fighting for his life and we need to help. Sparky has stones lodged in his urethra that have blocked the flow of urine and he is on the verge of going septic. He has emergency surgery scheduled first thing tomorrow morning. The estimated cost is $4,000 for the Emergency services, surgery, and follow up.

Sparky came to Pug Pals Rescue last winter after he had been bounced through three homes by the age of 2. In addition to having a terrible UTI, Sparky had behavioral issues stemming from his previous instability. We got him treated for the UTI and placed with a wonderful family in Utah who was committed to working with his behavior. Sparky has blossomed in their care. Today his adopters took him to their vet for another suspected UTI and were shocked to find that his urine is all crystals and his bladder and urethra are FULL of stones. The stones have traveled into his urethra causing a life and death situation.

Folks, we don't normally do this but we are up against a tight window of time to save this guy's life. IT is very likely that Sparky had the stones long before he was placed with his new family in Utah but that sparkling, clown personality pugs have masks pain so well. Had we known he had stones when he first came to us, we would have certainly acted on that and made sure he had surgery and stayed on a specialized diet. Now we need to help his family keep the pug they love so much on this Earth.

Please consider donating to help Spark. You can donate through our FB fundraiser, through the family's Venmo accounts, or by calling in a donation directly to the vet below. Sparky's account is under Kory Huff and Matt Tanner

Last night was warwick's first pug blanket time. We have done this for years. Anytime there is shade, blanket is down and the kids can play or sleep or just relax in the shade

[06/06/21]   Pug Pals will no longer maintain a waiting list. If you are interested in a pug that is currently available, please submit an application specific to that dog. We are an all volunteer organization that are unable to keep track of people, we can only keep track of the pugs :) We truly appreciate your continued support and understanding as we make decisions based on the best interest of the pugs in our care.

Remember Evie and her extreme weight-loss journey? This little lady lost 20 lbs and has a new zest for life. Unfortunately, her new found confidence has proven to be incompatible with the other dogs in her home. After multiple fights between Evie and the other female pug in the home, her adopter has made the heartbreaking decision to ask for a new home for this adorable girl.

Evie is in Boise, ID and is looking for a home where she can be an ONLY dog and have a family committed to keeping the weight off. She adores children and adults, but isn't able to share her people with other dogs. She is approximately 8 years old, spayed, had a dental, is current on her shots, and fully housebroken.

Please message us if you are in Idaho/Utah and can provide a wonderful "only dog" home for this little lady.

Yesterday, we had to say goodbye to Frank, the wheelie pug. He was diagnosed with a bladder stone last week by the ER vets. He was scheduled to have surgery on June 7th with his new mama in Colorado. Unfortunately, Frank took a turn for the worse last weekend when he was struck by a vestibular episode and was hospitalized again. He no sooner got back to he foster home yesterday and he began to have very labored breathing. He went back to the ER and they suspect he had a blood clot that traveled to his lungs. He was far too weak to have surgery and was in visible pain. Frank was helped over the bridge at 5:00 PM in the loving arms of his foster mom.

We want to thank Pacific Pug Rescue for working with us to help get Frank into rescue, his loving adopter who only got to know him through photos and videos but loved him with her whole heart, all of our supporters for helping us give Frank the best month of his life, and his amazing foster family who spent countless hours nursing him back to health and, in the end, made sure he was in the hands of veterinary professionals at WestVet 24/7 Animal Emergency & Specialty Center before whispering "I love you" into his ears as he gently passed.

That barking boy !

Finally got Warwick barking. He barks to get off couch until I direct him to the steps we have. He is adorable and such a happy boy. He is getting way more comfy sleeping in bed with us and the 4 other pugs.

Warwick is the sweetest little man. Mellow, polite and whines when he wants something. He got cozy quicker last night in bed. The first night he wasn't sure about sleeping in our bed. Got him some socks for the little patio, when he is not in wheels

1st night with Warwick. The pugs sleep with us so added Warwick and 5 pugs on bed. I woke up at midnight and he was awake breathing like he needed a drink. We got down and he drank his fill. We then slept on couch. Sammy and boz joined us and we all slept. Warwick is a mellow friendly quiet little man. I am followed around a lot by him but he is not comfortable yet. He will get in the pug groove shortly. I left for about an hour this morning and no issues.

We have a new boy on the block !
This is Warwick. He came today into foster care. He is 9 and a wheelie boy. Beautiful face ! Happy boy. He will get his vet visit soon so we can see what's going on with back legs, and make sure everything else is in tip top shape. He had a bath and ate his first meal here. We are all outside resting with his 3 foster brothers and 1 foster sister. One of his foster brothers is also a wheelie boy.

Styles has his two week check-in tomorrow at WestVet. If his clowning around with BFF, Tim, is any indication, he is healing well from his liver surgery. We hope to have a great report tomorrow!

Today little Finn, one of the puppies with floppy feet, saw both the osteo vet and the neurologist at West Vet specialty center. Unfortunately, they weren't able to tell us much. But now that there is a baseline for comparison, they will go back in a month to gauge progression. Videos of Finn and Jack in the comments.

These boys are not available for adoption at this time.

Special Needs Puppy

Recently we have taken in two puppies from the Twin Falls Shelter. This little guy's mom and dad were brother and sister. His condition is the result of inbreeding. Both boys "floppy feet" that impede their ability to stand and walk. We have an appointment with the specialist at West Vet next week to see what the future looks like for them.

Jack, in the video, is the worse of the two boys. He cannot stand to urinate or poo which not only makes for a mess, but can cause UTIs and urine burns on his bare belly. His foster home is great about keeping him clean but not everyone would have the time and patience necessary to care for him.

If you are dead set on adding a puppy to your family, PLEASE do your research about where they are coming from. Jack and Finn have very obvious birth defects but there are literally hundreds of other genetic defects that may not be as obvious or will not appear until they are mature.

We invite you to be a part of their journey as we navigate through how best to help them and their silly floppy feet.

Frank is ready to go cruising to pick up chicks, thanks to a generous donor! He LOVES his new ride!

Speaking of cruising chicks, Frank has a big announcement to make! He has found his forever mama!! Frank will be moving to Denver where he will have two new pug sisters and a mama that works in the veterinary field and has years of experience with paralyzed pugs. We could not be more excited!

He's not moving just yet, though. We are still waiting on his the results from his most recent labs to see if he is still battling e-coli, staph, and strep. But if his energy level and overall happy attitude is any indication, he's definitely winning the battle with infections.

05/13/2021

So far so good with little Styles! He’s resting well and hasn’t tried challenging his inactivity order. Just what he needs to help his little body heal.

Styles is ready to set some new trends with his half-bod shave job! He is home and resting and doing well. As happy as we are that he is out of the hospital, there is probably no one that is more happy than his big foster brother, Tim, the Pyrenees.

Now the challenge is to keep him still and so that his internal organs have time to heal. Right now he's not very interested in playing but we're sure that in a day or two his desire to hop on Tim for a wrestling match will be overwhelming.

Styles will have a recheck with the specialist in two weeks. If everything is working the way it should be, he will not have to go back for another 30 days. We are so thrilled that he made it through surgery and that he has a real shot at living a long, healthy life. Thank you for all of your support.
