I recently published a 540 book entitled Marienbad & Beyond, available world wide on Amazon, that vividly describes the development of that famous spa town of Marienbad that was visited by thousands of Jewish visitors annually. The book contains a 60 page picture gallery that captures those bygone years of pre war Europe. Then the war broke out and the book describes in great detail the atrocities that some family members suffered, but also describes in detail those who miraculously survived and had the courage to rebuild Jewish communities in many parts of the world. It is truly a book of the last century with an 80 year journey around the world.

Any information on the signs arriving in Chubbuck?
Just a hunch, but you all might want to ask authorities to interview this guy about his whereabouts last month in connection with the Memorial vandalism.
Can you make a yard sign and poster available of this billboard?

Home of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial The Center was founded in 1996 to construct a memorial to human rights. In August 2002, that vision became a reality when the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial opened to the public.

Today, thousands of school children and adults tour the Memorial each year and participate in our programs.

Here's Why You Can't Lose Hope Every day in my travels around this country (both in person or online) people ask one question: “How do you stay hopeful right now; how do you keep going when there is so much to grieve over, so much cruelty in front of you, when there is such daily violence to contend with?” I often… Continue...

2021 K-12 Human Rights Art Contest
Grand Prize: Tovi Belfer Sanford (One Stone)

Artist Statement:
In this piece I've taken the central motifs of lady justice, the sword, the blindfold, and the scales, and put them on two contrasting characters. I did this to represent that while we play an integral part in upholding justice, and we all believe that we should all be equal under the law, that this is not the case. The Caucasian figure is seated and relaxed - blind to the conflict and believes that all is well and fair - yet, holds the power to prosecute. The other figure somberly tries to alert them to the truth, tries to appeal to their compassion, tries to connect with them. This represents that things will only change when the people accept that they have privilege and use that privilege to fight for the rights of others.

This year, Idaho Gives was a 1-week event encouraging our community to come together and show support for the fantastic work that non-profits are doing in our great state of Idaho, and WOW did our community show up!

The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights exceeded their goal by raising over 31K from over 261 donors, received a generous match from the Cavanaugh Family, and saw seven companies join the Center as Ambassadors – each committed to being a beacon of light in the community and support the expansion of human rights education in Idaho.

This was an amazing event, and we are forever grateful. Thank you for supporting #IdahoGives2021

Although progress has been made since the late Bill Wassmuth first stood up to bigotry and hatred in northern Idaho, the need for human rights education continues to grow. Current headlines only remind us how much more there is to be done.

Idaho Gives ... and WE ARE EVERYWHERE

Etched in the stone of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, Edmund Burke reminds us, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

"We Are Everywhere" acknowledges that people of goodwill, that people who believe in compassion, equality, justice, love, respect, kindness and civility are, in fact, everywhere.

However, we know that there are those in the community who have not felt the love and kindness, that for some equality and justice seem more aspirational than attainable.

In fact, if compassion, equality, justice, love, respect and kindness were everywhere -- we would not need the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights. BUT, we are here as a force for good to educate, to empower, and to elevate. We stand as a beacon of light when times get dark.

During the week of Idaho Gives...and all year-long, let's each be the light - and stand together, proudly proclaiming that We Are Everywhere. Thank you to today's AMBASSADOR, Healthwise.

Idaho Gives ... CIVILITY

Etched in the stone of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, Mahatma Gandhi reminds us, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

In the Wassmuth Center’s community programming, the "Human Rights Certification Program" introduces the core principles of diversity, inclusion, ethics, civility, respect, and be an upstander in the workplace.

Completing the six-hour online program is a reminder that people of good intent and good will - people like you - are creating a new reputation for their department, their company, and their community as a place where human rights and human dignity are at the heart of daily living.

During the week of Idaho Gives...and all year-long, let's each bring a little civility to the table - and be the change we want to see. Thank you to today's CIVILITY AMBASSADOR, Fisher's Technology.

Idaho Gives ... JUSTICE

Etched in the stone of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, Amos reminds us, "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream."

Included in the Wassmuth Center's educational programming and resources, we present the "Spiral of Injustice." The Spiral was first developed as a graphic model to illustrate the devolution of humanity as "the Other" is targeted or demeaned through language, avoidance, discrimination, violence and/or elimination.

Available as a classroom poster, the Spiral is also discussed in Center e-booklets, the "Voices of Idaho" podcast, and featured in the Memorial as "The Other" - a sculpture created by Boise artist Ken McCall. What's coming next in the Center's examination of injustice? This year we're developing a new resource - the "Circle of Justice."

During the week of Idaho Gives...and all year-long, let's ensure that justice truly does roll down like waters to all members of our community. Thank you to today's JUSTICE AMBASSADOR, Hawley Troxell.

Our Story

The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights, Home of the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, grew out of a 1995 effort by a group of concerned individuals and civic/ business leaders to offset the negative image of Idaho as a place of intolerance and hatred. Over the past 25 years, the Center has become a respected nonpolitical institution whose primary mission is to promote respect for human dignity and diversity through education, and to foster individual responsibility to work for justice and peace.

To achieve this mission, we provide educational programming and content for teachers and students – both in the classroom and on-line. Also, over 10,000 people are educated through free docent-led tours of the Memorial each year. Finally, we provide support for companies and municipalities looking to establish or refine their own human rights initiatives.

Moving forward, we expect to become the primary source whenever recovery from a human rights crisis can be eased by our programming. To meet this goal, we need to deliver timely, impactful content that elicits meaningful dialogue. Success will require technical and content development expertise that delivers best in class programming one-to-many as well as one-on-one. Our goal over the next three to five years is to become a leading institution for human rights education across the state of Idaho and beyond.
