Idaho State Board of Education

The governing body for all education in Idaho, grades K-20. The Idaho State Board of Education (SBOE) is a policy-making body for all public education in Idaho and provides general oversight and governance for public K-20 education.

SBOE serves as the Board of Trustees for state-sponsored public four year colleges and universities and the Board of Regents for the University of Idaho. The board oversees five agencies, including: Office of the State Board of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Idaho Public Television, Professional Technical Education, and the State Department of Education.

Back to School During Uncertain Times

The new school year began with more uncertainty than we expected because of the rapid spread of the COVID-19 delta variant strain. However, based on our overall performance and experience last year, I am confident that our local school boards, administrators, teachers and parents are ready to meet the challenge, help students recover from the pandemic-caused disruption, and do what it takes to keep them on track, learning and in school.

BOARD APPROVES LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL FOR FULL-TIME KINDERGARTEN

The Idaho State Board of Education today approved a legislative proposal to fund full-time kindergarten in Idaho public schools statewide during its meeting at Idaho State University in Pocatello. If the proposal becomes law, parents who choose to send their children to kindergarten would be able to enroll them either full-time, or half-time provided school facilities are available.

This training is available to Idaho educators and any member of a school's community (this includes parents, grandparents, school staff, staff at youth organizations, coaches; anyone who interacts with students at home or at school).

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to assess a person for signs of suicidal thoughts or other mental health conditions, how to listen nonjudgmentally, and how to help people connect with proper resources in their community to find help.

Topics covered include depression and mood disorders, su***de, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis and substance use disorder.

This is a six-hour class consisting of two hours of self-guided study with four hours of an interactive zoom call.

Ron Pisaneschi, the current GM, announced last week that he plans to retire after more than 35 years working at IPTV, including eight years leading the statewide public broadcasting system.
