Students at Boise's Sage International School took part in several community projects for today's Day of Gratitude and Giving. To honor "the helpers", a group of the students created some beautiful sidewalk chalk art just outside of the Education Building at Boise State where some of the School of Social Work offices are located. Thank you to these thoughtful students at Sage International School!

A "spooky" MSW class this week: these students decided to have some fun and dress up as Dr. James Beauchemin this Halloween.

A couple weeks ago, Professor Veronica Timbers and two graduate students Elena Vasquez and Alyssa Bell got the opportunity to share their research at the North American Christian Association of Social Work’s (NACSW) annual academic conference. Their presentation, titled “Can social works of faith be a bridge in social language divides?”, discussed what appropriate social work skills would be most effective in bridging conversations when certain words and phrases have been attached to political tension and thus lead to arguments or refusal to continue dialogue.

As the current Program Director for the Northwest Region of Canine Companions and a May 2021 graduate of Boise State Online’s Master of Social Work (MSW) Online degree Kim Mizia leads her life with empathy.

Mizia believes higher education has made her a better person and had a huge impact on her life and how she interacts with the world around her. She credits education as a major factor in how she views herself, others, her own preconceptions and her compassion for others in her community. This is what led her to seek a degree in social work. She researched several avenues of continued studying and kept coming back to social work.

“I feel that I’m better able to lead my life with empathy rather than with judgment."
