There are 4 aspects of advanced driving...
1. Desire - to drive safe
2. Knowledge - risk assessment & management
3. Discipline - to keep doing what your supposed to be doing no matter what.
4. Skill - in finding the safest lane position and peripheral vision driving.
Many have desire, but few have the knowledge, discipline, or skills. This is where Ultra Safe driving comes in.

Lowering the price for practice drives. If you already have a permit or license and want professional training it is now $80 for 2 hours. This is probably the lowest price in the state. I just want people to be trained correctly and safely.

Online Drivers Ed 12/16/2017

Online Drivers Ed

Here is info on the Enhanced Drive...

The Enhanced Course is 11 hours of driver training. With 4 additional hours students will drive in more environments, have more time to fine-tune their skill before driving with parents, and have more opportunity to make defensive driving a habit. We will also be able to discuss more driving laws and other important information. Also the 4 hours will be applied to the 50 hour requirement for the Graduated Driver License Program (supervised driving period). This is the best deal in all driver education. 11 hours of advanced driver training for $440 (includes online Driversed.com course).

Hill/Mountain Driving (Cartwright Road, Dry Creek Road, Hwy 55)

Additional Highway Driving w/ merging(To Simco Rd). Cruise Control is also taught.

Drive-Thru coffee shop of students choice (they need to bring money and let the instructor know in advance, we'll start driving a 5 minutes earlier)

These additional routes might let us pass other cars on 2 lane roads such as Hwy 55. Passing is rarely ever taught in driver education because most routes don't give the opportunity.

Parallel Parking & Backing-up Parking

Actual real world driving in an unmarked driver education car. No matter how hard we strive to make driving as real as possible there still remains the "Driver Training" advertising on the car. "Driver Training" signs scare usually about 30% of drivers who keep their distance from us - this is not real. The last drive in the Enhanced Course is in a vehicle that looks like any other vehicle. This gives the student an actual real world driving experience. There is still a passenger brake and passenger mirrors for safety. [This is allowed by law because the driving, observation, and classroom requirements will have been met]

Allows more practice doing the basics such as speed control, lane changes, turns, and covering the break (very important because you won't have a passenger brake).

Online Drivers Ed Take your drivers ed (teens & adults), schedule in car driving lessons, complete traffic school - online and state approved.

How to get Sign Up...

STEP 1. Write down any family events, sporting events, or other events which might come into conflict with the drives. There is a $40 fee to reschedule a drive. (see FAQ What if I have to reschedule?). It is best to have at least 6 weeks of time available to drive. Students will do 4 drives. There cannot be more than 5 full days between drives. Solo students will be paired with other solo students.

STEP 2. Look at the schedule below and write down all times that fit your schedule. You will need 1 to 2 weeks to complete 70% of the driversed.com online. The time need to complete 70% will depend on your schedule. This is a decision students and parents need to make. Students who have no after school activities usually decide on 1 week. Students with busy schedules should decide on a full 2 weeks. This allows 2 weekends to work on it. Therefore when looking at the schedule and deciding on possible drives please keep in mind the time needed for the online course.

STEP 3. Call or text 863-4154 to double check if times are available.

STEP 4. If times are available you will then go to the DMV with all the required documents. At the DMV you will tell them "Ultra Safe Advanced Driver Training" (UltraSafe should do fine). All students are scheduled on a first scheduled & paid - first served basis. Your desired drive times may be taken by another student if too much time goes by. Prepay is available.

STEP 5. Call or text to let us know you've gone to the DMV and we will set up a 25-35 minute parent/student meeting. The order in which we schedule the parent/student meetings is based on the order students go to the DMV. Whoever goes to the DMV first will be scheduled first - regardless of who called first.
Meeting locations vary but are generally at Lucky Perk Coffee on the corner of Overland and Eagle. Students must come to the meeting. At the meeting you will pay with cash or check, we will review the schedule, you will receive the driversed.com access code*, and discuss any questions you might have pertaining to driver training.
* The online class will be provided by Driversed.com. This class takes the place of a traditional 30 hour class in a classroom. The online course must be 70% completed before the student can drive.

DMV INFORMATION
Under 17 Students...
If you are 14 1/2 to 16 years old you must take a driver training course in order to get a driver's license in Idaho. First go to the DMV located at 400 N Benjamin Ln # 102 to get your instruction permit. (Phone number 208-577-3135)

You will need these items...

1. Proof of Age and Identity: If you do not have a state-issued ID card then you must bring...
*From the Idaho Drivers Manual: "The certified birth certificate you provide must list your mother and father for liability signer purposes". According the ITD you can bring a copy but I recommend taking the original birth certificate and a school photo ID card or yearbook. Your school ID is NOT a state-issued ID.
2. Social Security Card or Number for Verification. It's okay if you don't have the card, but you do need the number. The DMV will verify it.
3. Proof of Idaho Residency. Pay stub, utility bills, school enrollment records are all acceptable. (I would bring at least 2 items just in case.)
4. Acceptable Lawful Presence Documents (if applicable)
5. Foreign Driver’s License (if applicable)
6. Visual/Medical Certification (if applicable)
7. Driver Training Completion (if under 17) This applies only when finished with Driver's Ed.
8. Liability Signer (if under 18). Birth parent or legal guardian must sign paperwork.
9. Verification of School Compliance – VOC (if under 18) Available at your school. (Usually the school secretary has these)

While at the DMV you must tell them to send the permit to UltraSafe Advanced Driver Training. Please bring the receipt to the parent meeting. The receipt will allow you to take driver training lessons even if the permit is still processing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Updated 11/7/17
Do you teach teenagers?
Yes. This is the fastest, safest, best way for your student to earn their driving permit. It usually takes 10 to 14 days for students to get their permit.

How much is it?
$350 for driving for the normal driver training course for 17 & under students. The best deal is our Enhanced Driving Course which is $440 for 11 hours of driver training. Both options include the online classroom course. Partner discount discussed below.
New 1 Drive per Week Option: This is for students who can only drive 1 day per week because of busy schedules. There are still 4 drives total. Each drive that is 5 full days since the last drive is extended 30 minutes except the first and last drives. This allows students time to refresh their skills in parking lots and light roads before proceeding onto the main route. It is an additional $20 for each drive that is 6 full days from the previous drive. This applies only to the regular driving course, not the Enhanced Course. Please note sometimes UltraSafe does not operate on weekends. *With this option there cannot be more than 6 days between drives*. This works great for students involved in after school activities and can only drive on the weekends.

Here's an Example - If you can only drive on Saturdays...
Drive 1 is a normal drive
Drive 2 is $20 extra and is 2 hours (2hrs and 30min solo/ 4.5 hrs with a partner)
Drive 3 is $20 extra and is 2 hours (2hrs and 30min solo/ 4.5 hrs with a partner)
Drive 4 is a normal drive even if it has been a full week since the last drive

*Driving more than 6 full days between drives will require an additional driving 1.5 hour driving day in addition to the extra 30 minutes on drives 2 & 3. It is $50. Total extra cost will be $90 and there will be 5 driving days.

17 And Over Students and Adults...
If you are...
17 - Anyone 17 or older does not legally need to take a traditional driver training course. UltraSafe requires you to the normal driver training course which includes the online course through Driversed.com. The parent meeting is required since the student is a minor. In order to encourage students to take driver training UltraSafe offers the program at a discounted $300 rate.
18 - You must take 6 hours of driver training. The online course is not required. The cost is $210. Parents/Guardians must attend the parent meeting unless you have graduated high school (or equivalent) with proof. Students 17 and under will have scheduling priority.
19 - You must take 4 hours of driver training for $140. The online course is not required. Each additional hour of training is $30. Students 17 and under will have scheduling priority.
20+ You can take 2 hours only for $70. Students 17 and under will have scheduling priority.

To get started you'll need to go to the DMV (look at document requirements above) and get your drivers education/instruction permit. You will take a test to make sure you have a basic understanding of the laws. You will follow many of the steps above. Then call me at 863-4154 to set up an appointment. If you are 17 you will need to attend the parent meeting with your parent or guardian. If you are 18 and over you will have to attend the meeting to sign the paperwork.

How long will it take?
*1 to 2 weeks once the drives begin. It is required that you complete 6 hours of driving and 6 hours of in-car observation to complete the "driving" portion of the course. You must complete 70% of the online class and read Chapters 2, 3, & 4 of the Idaho Drivers Manual before the first drive. This will make the first drive smoother, safer, and efficient. You must also complete 100% by the last drive.

*The entire process depends on how soon you go to the DMV, when we have a parent meeting, the student's schedule (free time), and how much time they need to complete the online course. Usually after you go to the DMV the entire program will take 20-22 days. The order in which we schedule the parent/student meeting is based on who goes to the DMV first - this means whomever goes to the DMV first will be scheduled first. The only exception is if you go to the DMV but we can't meet till later in the week. In this case we will make a tentative schedule with many driving options over the phone.

When are classes held?
Classes are online. At the parent meeting you will receive a driversed.com access code used as payment for the online course. The access code is given no sooner than 2 weeks before the first drive. You can complete this course at your own pace. Students must be 70% finished with the online course to begin driving. We schedule the first drive no sooner than 7 days after the access code has been given. For parents who wish for additional education in a classroom please click on the Alive at 25 link on the home page. Alive at 25 is a 4.5 hr class taught by police officers and gives student a different perspective on safe driving. The class is free but has very limited availability.

What car will my student drive?
Our car has a passenger brake and is fully certified satisfying all state requirements including insurance.

I don't understand the Driversed.com Online Class?
Driver education students are required by Idaho to attend a classroom course consisting of 30 hours. Driversed.com replaces the classroom with an online course that you can take at your convenience. UltraSafe uses driversed.com to satisfy the 30 hours required Idaho. You must go to the DMV before signing up for the online class - Driversed.com requires the permit number. Remember to tell the DMV UltraSafe Advanced Driver Training ("UltraSafe" should suffice). Included in the price is a Pre-paid access code which is basically how you pay for the course. The access code is only given within 2 weeks of the first drive. At the parent meeting you will receive a driversed.com access code used as payment for the online course.

Can we finish the online course and then sign up for training?
No, unless the first drive is within a week of finishing the online course. It is best for the student to take the online course as close to the driving as possible. Many driving schools require students to finish the online course and then sign up for drives. If your student was going to drive with a different school, finished the online course, and then decided on UltraSafe - you can still sign up because you will still learn more (mistakes happen).

What if I have to reschedule or I miss a drive?
You must reschedule 5 days prior to your drive in order to avoid a reschedule fee. The missed drives/rescheduling fee is $40. If you reschedule for an earlier time you will NOT pay the additional $40.
If rescheduling pushes out your drive too far, your student may have to drive 1 additional hour at $25/hour depending on their driving proficiency. We have strict standards at UltraSafe.

What is the refund policy?
You must cancel at least 7 days of the first scheduled drive to receive a full refund minus $50 (if paid at meeting; $25 if paid in advance through paypal). If you paid at the meeting and you cancel within 6 days or less of your scheduled drive, you will receive the full refund minus $75 (50$ cancellation fee + $25 late cancellation fee) If your student has driven you will receive a prorated amount minus $75. I.e. If your student has driven 1 out of 4 drives you will receive 75% refund minus $110. UltraSafe is not responsible for any other costs including reimbursements. In all cancellation situations, if a driversed.com access code was given, an additional $50 cannot be refunded.

How many total drives and how long are each drive?
4 Drives. Each being 1 1/2 to 2 hours (not including observation time). Most students will get a minimum of 6 1/2 hours of behind the wheel driving. If you are driving the 1 Drive per Week Option 30 minutes of the 2.5 hour or 4.5 hour drive is dedicated to in-car classroom instruction.
If researching other companies please ask them about their drives and keep these in mind...
-Three 2-hour drives is too much for most students.
-Six 1-hour drives is not necessary (I have seen no difference in the quality of the driving when students do four 1.5 hour drives or six 1-hour drives)
-Eight 45-minute drives is not enough time to get students the experience since it can take 20 minutes just to get to your destination area.
-And twelve 30-minute drives (as in some public driver education schools) is quite frankly ridiculous.

How long are the drives?
1.5 - 2 hours if alone. 3 - 3.5 if they have a partner.

What are the days and times my student can drive?
Please check for openings on the website...

What is the Partner Discount?
$20 off for each student if they sign up together. Or, if you get a partner to sign up later and drive the same schedule. A parent of each student must attend parent the meeting.

Defensive driving is important but isn't it taught at other schools or won't they learn from experience?
Most driver education schools focus on driving laws (rules of the road). While there is nothing wrong with this - there are many situations where there are no driving laws to address potential probelms or the driving law simply fails. New laws are added from time to time but the process is slow. For example..it took until 1978 for right-turns-on-red to be made legal. An example of how a law fails is when in certain situations it is legal to come to a complete stop AFTER the stop sign. This has proved horrible for many sidewalk users including bicyclists. Many instructors including parents may have the student drive a particular way to avoid a possible collision - this is great but they don't explain why. When I began teaching I would tell students to drive away from parked cars in a parking lot - but I wouldn't explain why nor did I realize I was using a method of safe driving that applies everywhere. I now teach a tried and true method defensive driving which addresses 99% of potential problems on the road.
Yes students learn from experience...but sometimes they learn the hard way. Sometimes they never get a chance to show they've learned because they decide never to drive again from immense guilt, they physically and mentally are unable to drive again, or they're dead. An experienced driver uses many defensive driving techniques without even thinking about it. I teach students techniques they might possible learn (with 20 years of driving experience).

Why should I take drivers education? Why not wait till I'm 17 and just take the test?
Studies show those who take driver education will get into less accidents and keep insurance costs lower. Many accidents occur when uneducated drivers simply don't know the rules of the road. Working in a high school I speak with students about the accidents they get into...I would say 50% are from lack of discipline in following the rules, 30% are from knowing the rules but NOT knowing any defensive drives techniques, and 20% are from simply not knowing the rules of the road.

Can I pay in advance to reserve a spot?
Please call to discuss openings and paying in advance.

What is the process after the 6 months supervised driving is complete?
When the 6 months is complete you will go to the DMV to take the written knowledge test. If you lost the original DMV receipt please have them print another one. Make sure the $6.50 state skills test fee is paid. When the test is passed you will call up a "skills tester". They are listed by region on the DMV website. For the skills test you will need the DMV receipt and the UltraSafe Certificate of Completion (to show completion date). You will pay them $17.50 cash.
