The Laurel Learning Collective invites you and your student to be a part of a dynamic learning commu

The Laurel Learning Collective is a community of qualified tutors, engaged students, and involved families who aim for academic excellence. The Laurel was founded in 2020 by two secondary education majors in response to the dynamic COVID-19 learning landscape. After getting to know our students and connecting with their teachers, our tutors craft individualized lessons plans to meet each student's

Our group tutoring sessions are designed with safety, content mastery, and social connection in mind. Group sessions invite three to six students to join a qualified tutor for a (socially distanced) tutoring session at the Boise State or Meridian Library. Sessions focus on a single topic, and they are built to encourage collaboration during learning. They are ideal for students collectively preparing for an exam, students who are looking to reconnect with their peers, and students who thrive in social learning environments.

Group discounts are available for teams of students who plan to study together for the duration of their academic quarter, semester, or trimester.

Our College Coach Program is designed to reduce the stress of college application season for students and their families. Students will determine their top university choices, and their College Coach will help them to tailor their applications to ensure their best chance for admittance to each school. Additionally, College Coaches are qualified to assist students with scholarship applications, test prep (ACT, SAT, and AP), and Honors College applications.

Long-term College Coaches are available to freshman and sophomore students who could benefit from the accountability of having a qualified mentor. Long-term Coaches will partner with your student to set goals and manage weekly activates that will set them on a path towards their college, career, and scholarship goals.

Our individual tutoring sessions are designed to ensure your student receives focused, customized, and effective one-on-one instruction time. Our tutors will work with your student’s teacher(s) to ensure our tutoring sessions align with and complement their classroom instruction. These tutoring sessions are designed to supplement and enrich the content your student is already presented with at school.

Using a hybrid of the internationally recognized Danielson Framework for Teaching and the newly emerging Tomlinson Method for a Differentiated Classroom, our tutors will customize their teaching styles to adapt to the learning needs of your student. We recognize that, in a traditional classroom setting, teaching must be tailored to fit a wide array of student needs. In contrast, our individual tutoring sessions will bring the focus back onto your student and their learning. Each tutoring session is organized around a lesson plan build exclusively for your student.

Meet our tutors!

Hi there! My name is Abby, and I am a senior in the Honors College at Boise State University. I am excited to graduate in December, and I’m looking forward to going back to BSU for my Masters of Education next fall. The highlight of my time at BSU has been the time I spent working in the classrooms of Capital and Borah High School. My students at Capital introduced me to the joys of teaching, and they taught me the importance of relatability, adaptability, and consistent encouragement. My English Second Language (ESL) students at Borah helped me to learn the importance of accommodating individual learning styles, trust within the classroom, and the importance of setting goals for learning. I am excited to carry over these lessons, and my enthusiasm for education, into my tutoring practice.

Meet our tutors!

Welcome to The Laurel Learning Collective! My name is Matt, and I am a junior who will graduate from Boise State University in the fall of 2021 with a degree in STEM Secondary Education. Over the past three years, I have gained extensive experience working with students and faculty at Pathways Middle School in Meridian. My experiences as the Safe School assistant at Pathways have helped me to better understand how the unique needs of students shape their learning styles. That understanding was formative in establishing my teaching style, and it has proven to be an effective method of classroom management. While at Pathways, I also served as a permanent sub. On a daily basis, I had the opportunity to lead a classroom, connect with students, and help them to learn new ways of retaining information.
