Welcome Amanda Stewart, PMHNP!

Amanda Stewart is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). As a PMHNP, she holds a master’s degree in nursing with specialized education and training in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. She is able to prescribe and manage psychiatric medications and use brief solution focused therapies. Her approach to pharmacotherapy is judicious and thoughtful. She is also credentialed with most major insurance panels. Amanda's style is relational-- authentic and supportive--and her approach is holistic, meaning that she believes a person’s mind, body, spirit, emotions and environment are interconnected and influence lived experience. She strives to engage with students and clients, and develop a unique and sensible plan to manage chronic mental health problems, deal with life’s unexpected stress, and overcome obstacles to personal wellness or growth. We are excited to have Amanda on board our team working with both Northwest College Support and Gemba Gap Program!

A few years ago, someone asked me the question "if you could tell a parent one thing what would it be?" My answer to the question wasn't just a theory, but a story. A story of how I observed one young person get stuck, and how that pattern played out over and over. As I told the story, and listened to other stories over the years, a pattern emerged which helped understand why young adults get stuck and how they can get back on track.

The basic premise of my answer on the phone call was that the "gap gets bigger". I told a story of a student who when they were in grade school tended to be slightly more sensitive than their peers, a student who need a little bit of support but were able to relate to and function at a very similar level to their similar-aged peers. As that student gets older, the world presents more executive functioning challenges to that student, and as time goes by their world gets smaller while the world is getting bigger for their friends.

Gemba Gap Program was created two years ago this March to support young adults who need space and time to develop independent living skills, and guides to navigate college or vocational paths."

Dr. Si Steinberg, affectionately called Dr. Si by his patients and staff, is a Double Board Certified Child Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist. He has been working with individuals and families for over thirty years. His philosophy with regards to prescribing medications is that medicine is merely the lubricant to grease the wheels of the machinery of therapy and living fully. Rarely is medication the center or primary component of an individual's treatment. Dr. Si strives to be as minimalistic as possible with medication interventions and encourages the resolution of underlying causes and conditions prior to jumping to conclusions about diagnoses and medication treatment regimens.

Our programs strive to provide comprehensive clinical care for young adults within our transitional and aftercare settings. We feel extremely fortunate to have Dr. Si on our team!
