There is a (probably apocryphal) tale told that Ernest Shackleton ran an advertisement in a London paper that only highlighted the challenges of his upcoming expedition to the Arctic. Purportedly, Shackleton received 5,000 responses to this short ad. However, Shackleton selected only a handful to join him. Similarly, Jesus calls all to follow him. At the same time, he warns that "Many are invited, but few are chosen" (Mt 22:14). Will you respond to our Lord's call?
The past two years have demanded much from our nurses. If you know a nurse, write him or her a note of encouragement. Nurses' constant battle against illness and injury is a beautiful thing to behold!
Today, on the National Day of Prayer, join us in praying for religious freedom. May the United States always be a place where the practice of religion is cherished.
The painter, Caspar David Friedrich, was unpopular in his day because his landscapes didn't have enough "urgency." In today's urgent culture, the stillness of his paintings is the perfect antidote to the 24-hour news cycle. You can check out his other works at https://www.caspardavidfriedrich.org/the-complete-works.html and take in a little stillness today!
At its heart, humility is the virtue of realizing that God is God, and we are not God. Out of that flows humility with relation to other people. The Catechism tells us this virtue is the foundation of prayer.
Courage is mental strength that allows one to face danger. Speaking truth sometimes requires great strength. At a time when falsehoods about Jesus were widespread, Saint Athanasius suffered banishment five times for bravely speaking the truth. Pray that our Church leaders speak the truth, guided by love, no matter the cost!
Join Pope Francis in praying for young people this month. They are the future of our Church.
Jesus walks on the shores of our lives. In today's Gospel, he calls the disciples to eat with him, just as he calls us to the Eucharist each week.

St. Catherine was a great mystic, promoter of the faith, and defender of the papacy. At the heart of her life was that constant hunger to know and love Jesus more and more. Be sure to ask for her intercession regularly, but especially today - it's her feast day!
On this memorial of St. Louis de Montfort, the great promoter of Marian devotion, we ask…"Why Mary?"

We often mistake religion as a "list of rules." But at the heart of our religion is the perfect one, the merciful law-maker: God himself. It follows, then, that by living out God's law, we will find freedom.
Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Mark, the Evangelist whose Gospel has two major components: the ministry of Jesus, and his Passion. Each section concludes with someone coming to faith - Peter and the Centurion.
Today we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, the second Sunday of Easter. May we, like Thomas, come to declare the risen Jesus as our Lord and God.

Today is Spy Wednesday, the day when we traditionally remember Judas betraying Jesus. If we look carefully at this passage, we see that Judas did not hand Jesus over with a price in mind. Rather, he was willing to take whatever was offered. For more on Judas, check out this brief talk that Pope Benedict XVI gave in 2006: https://www.vatican.va/content/benedict-xvi/en/audiences/2006/documents/hf_ben-xvi_aud_20061018.html
If we think of all the problems in the world we can get overwhelmed. God asks us to do something different - look each person in the eye and see one of his children.
