What do you see here?

This is an older brood frame with pollen. If you look closely you can see that some of the pollen that has been packed in has been now capped with wax. Why do they do that? (Answer below)

[06/13/21]   Hey beeks, if you haven't yet, you really need to do an alcohol wash and see where your mite levels are. If you inspect the hive and see any deformed wings on the bees or any mites on the top of their abdomen you already have a problem and need to treat immediately. Some of my apiaries have shown high mite loads even after their April treatment and I am treating again. Please follow any and all treatment instructions as there are some that are dangerous to use during high heat. Let me know if you have any questions!

If you ever find your bees trying to draw comb away from your frames, that likely means you have foundation that is poorly coated with wax. They will do whatever they have to to avoid building from the foundation. The only way to remedy this is to apply more wax to the foundation. You can do this by dipping into melted beeswax or by ‘painting’ it on like I am doing here. Doing this properly works like a charm for the bees.

Let me know if anyone is interested in buying a nuc. I have about 50 still available. They are 5 Frame nucs with a 2021 queen. All will be treated for mites prior to pick up. Going for $175. Pick up will be early-mid April. Send me a message to put an order in!

First 21 days of bee’s life in hypnotizing timelapse

Great video showing the development of a bee from egg to adult in one minute. Drones take the longest to emerge from their cells at 24 days. Worker bees take 21 days and a queen only takes 16 days.
