Please welcome our new Health and Human Services Purdue Extension Monroe County Educator, Ody Ekwonwa! (Pronunciation - Ody -> Odd-"d" (or Audi like the car) Ekwonwa -> Ek-whoa-wa). We are very happy to have her here at the office and in our community! Here's a little more about her:

Ody Ekwonwa was born in Hoffman Estates, IL which is a northwest suburb of Chicago where she spent most of her life there and another large part in the Middle East where she grew up. As a Nigerian born American, she takes a lot of pride in her Nigerian heritage. In addition to her love of her culture, she also loves her Catholic faith and it is also another crucial part of who she is. Ody graduated from the University of Illinois at Springfield where she studied Liberal Studies and obtained minors in pre-medicine and chemistry in 2018. This past spring of 2021, she graduated with her Master’s in Public Health in Community Health Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. This peanut butter lover enjoys laughing and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys exercising, learning, getting to know people, listening to music and trying new things! Ody is the oldest of 5, four girls and one boy, and she thinks that older sibling mentality contributed to her love of being a leader and taking care of and helping others. Her goal in life is to help those who cannot help themselves and to work with different populations like minorities and families. Ody looks forward to the new opportunities to help the residents of Monroe County through various avenues and for growth in herself.

Fall armyworms have been reported in Monroe Co. They can move into turf areas and cause extensive damage. One of the easiest ways to identify this insect is to look at its head. There is a white inverted Y shape between their eyes. For more information visit:https://extension.entm.purdue.edu/publications/E-61/E-61.pdf
